Today at Oculus Connect, we shared some exciting updates about the future of Rift. Core 2.0 is out of beta — and now known as the new Rift Platform. Soon, everyone will be using Home and Dash. We've put a ton of work into improving performance and look and feel, and can't wait to hear what you think. Release notes for 1.31 can be found below — and be sure to visit the Rift blog for more info.
  • Dash
    • We're launching Experiments, a proving ground for experimental features aren't ready for official release. You can toggle individual experiments via the Settings tab within Dash. Some of the first experimental features available for testing:
      • Oculus Desktop Window Pullout
      • Wristwatch
      • Window Controls
    • Various design improvements to increase usability.
    • Various performance improvements and fixes, including an issue with Library sorting
  • Home:
    • New themed item collections: Spooky, Pirate, and Retro-Modern.
    • Customer Developer Items
      • Developers can now give out special Home objects and decor as gameplay rewards and achievements (live with initial partners, opening to all developers soon).
    • User generated content
      • Home now supports the playback of skinned animations for user generated content
      • Fixed an issue where user generated content would sometimes not show up in Home
    • We've revamped the UI to improve usability.

10th October, still no update.

Does the "Run As Admin" trick not work with 1.31 then? As I have used that intentionally in the past to prevent it running in the background and using RAM, as I only have 8gb and the difference is noticeable when playing games.
I don't wish to have Home continuously running at all when playing any game so would like to use this trick again.

I tried that old admin trick way back with 1.27/core 1.0 and I did not see any significant difference.  Apparently, with 1.31/core 2.0 you cannot use this.  Who cares, not me at least , lol!  If you really want/need the upgrade (like you are feeling left out) maybe try downloading the latest Oculus Rift software and select Repair.  However, last time I checked a few days ago it was still 1.30/core 1.0 but it might be updated by now, who knows?

Don't tell them that, next update we'll all be starting in the Oculus Store (= more sales), lol!

I do think the sales are extremely important - VR can't survive if the devs don't sell their games because we're all busy decorating our Homes and polishing our trophies. But we'll see how it goes - I guess that's the approach from Oculus staff right now. Maybe Home 2.0 will work wonders, maybe it won't - interesting how the VR balance will look in December:

Thanks for the Repair trick may try that later

You really need at least 16gb ram imho.

Please give us the possibility to start a game without oculus home running, like selecting the old home aplication. With OCULUS home running in background, I have between 5-10% less performance than with 1.30 version.

Another +1 on this. We are all losing performance now, please give us the option to choose if we want Home open in the background. Or let us use the old Home again, some of us were happy with that.

I did a Win 10 reinstall the other day, downloaded the installer from Oculus, it's still 1.30, which is just fine by me.

Yet another +1 for this. Even if most games can run just fine with Home in the background, 5% performance is still 5% performance I can spend on improving visual quality with, for example, supersampling.

I just started Oculus after the 1.31 update and a duplicate windows task bar appeared in the middle of my screen. I closed Oculus but the task bar persisted and the only way I could get rid of it was to restart  Windows 10

That’s called a REBOOT.
