The title says it all. Here's the article and the quote.

https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/22/oculus-co-founder-is-leaving-facebook-after-cancellation-of-rift-2...
"Iribe is leaving Facebook  following some internal shake-ups at the company’s virtual reality arm last week that saw the cancellation of the company’s next generation “Rift 2” PC-powered virtual reality headset which he had been leading development of, a source close to the matter tell TechCrunch."

Can we get a confirmation or denial of this from Oculus officially?

Update:

https://variety.com/2018/digital/news/oculus-co-founder-brendan-iribe-is-leaving-facebook-1202988298...
"Facebook denied a Techcrunch report that the departure was prompted by a corporate decision to cancel plans for a second-generation Oculus Rift headset."

"There are some indications that the departure wasn’t completely amicable. Techcrunch reported Monday that Facebook decided to cancel plans for a PC-powered Rift 2 headset that Iribe’s group had been working on, prompting him to throw the towel. Facebook subsequently denied this report, with a spokesperson telling Variety
: “Yes, we are planning a future version of Rift.”"

Update 2:

Lucas Matney of TechCrunch has doubled-down on the cancellation rumor, suggesting that Oculus has cancelled the variation of the CV2 that is currently under development, but also concedes that there may still be a CV2 in the future.

Update 3:

Nate Mitchell has chimed in, stating clearly that the Rift/PC platform is still in the works, but he doesn't give any clarification on possible changes to their business strategy therein.

If that's the case @Snowdog, it would be undercutting the Vive Pro full kit by quite a sum! Currently that's at £1,299/$1,399. With the Vive Pro alone at £799/$799 (don't know why the HMD alone has a non-existent exchange rate).

Anyway, that puts the non-kit accessories at $600/£500 over the HMD alone, so I'm using that as a guide. Prices will change no doubt but I'm not sure HTC will allow a superior HMD package to undercut their own price by much. Unless Pimax are planning their own base stations/controllers... are they doing that? I'm losing track.

It's looking like they're selling their base stations and controllers for $300, although it does mention 'Deposit' on their website so maybe they'll be charging more..? Could be something lost in translation though, perhaps..?

The $300 deposit goes against the final price. So if something is $900 then they are asking you to pay $300 up-front, and when it is ready all you need to pay is the remaining $600. It's not $300 just to hold your place in line and then full price after.

Pimax are apparently having troubles with their new pre-order offerings, several folks from some of the flight sim sites have tried and could not get anything to go through. Lot of frustrations there.
I sure as heck would not order one till I see reports of  how they are in everyday users hands.
When are the backers supposed to get theirs again?
