v23 PTC PC Software Release Notes

ShowbizDonkey
Retired Support
Quick note on release numbering - v22 was an internal only build, so we're jumping to v23!

Oculus Rift S

  • We resolved an issue in Oculus Dash where pinned windows would show graphic distortion across the entire pane and not be visible to the user.

Oculus Link

  • Increased encode resolution which improves visual quality while running Link.

No idea but downloading now, hopefully the encode resolution bug is fixed so we can pump the resolution!

It's not often they fix things, but when they do they usually announce it in the notes.

I don't think it had anything to do with the encode resolution bug.  Nothing seems to be any sharper in link

Same, I tried to change it and still doesn't seem to make a difference. It's getting more and more difficult to switch back and forth between Virtual Desktop and Link as it just looks blurry.

I am also curious about what they changed in Oculus App Version 23.0.0.43.517
It's almost like they should make this documentation easily accessible, maybe add a beta tab to the support.oculus.com/release-notes/ page?

Tested on 2080 Ti with 500 Mbps Encode Bitrate and 3648 Encode Resolution - no problems in 15mins Saints & Sinners testing.

OVRMetrics native on Quest 2 reported, that it still runs on the same "Low" native resolution - Is there a way to improve that ?

Thanks for the info, Looks like we are running a very similar setup. Ill give it a crack.

With regards to the pinned windows, yes it no longer sometimes displays a grey box but now it will not update whats inside the window as soon as you go back into your game, meaning any stream chat does not get updated.

It's made it useless, not all games support not being the active window, for example project cars 2 needs to be active for your inputs to work but it's either a choice of seeing the text chat update on the pinned window or being able to play the game.

Used to be fine, now it's a visible yellow window around whatever you have pinned and it needs to be ontop and the only active window, I've not tested with a YouTube video yet but will do tonight, it's pretty poor regardless as how else do you get chat into your headset?

So you expect Chat to work at the same time as other Windows tabs/apps are open?  Maybe different chats in different tabs?  Sounds pretty challenging.
