v23 PTC PC Software Release Notes

ShowbizDonkey
Retired Support
Quick note on release numbering - v22 was an internal only build, so we're jumping to v23!

Oculus Rift S

  • We resolved an issue in Oculus Dash where pinned windows would show graphic distortion across the entire pane and not be visible to the user.

Oculus Link

  • Increased encode resolution which improves visual quality while running Link.

@ShowbizDonkey  What's the Link encode resolution now and does it depend if you are Q1 or Q2?  Thanks mate.

Edit; Also, what happened to v22?  Seems to have gone from v21 to v23.  Ok, see that v22 was for internal use only, lol!

Tested on 2080 Ti with 500 Mbps Encode Bitrate and 3648 Encode Resolution - no problems in 15mins Saints & Sinners testing.

OVRMetrics native on Quest 2 reported, that it still runs on the same "Low" native resolution - Is there a way to improve that ?

I guess we will need to get an update for the Quest to UP the decoder res.

I don't think so since this is done via the Oculus desktop app with link.  Not on the Quest itself.

OVR metrics tool still reports a pretty low res compared to something like VD. I'm just guessing here though. It feels like we are still decoding at a lower than native res and letting the display itself upscale it and therefore introduce blurriness to the picture

Maybe just try using Oculus Tray tool (OTT) Quest tab and set it to 3664.  That's what I'm using right now with my Q2.  Also, Global= 1.2xSS and ASW= auto.  Seems to be working well for me with my fairly high end desktop gaming PC (gtx1080ti,,,see my signature at the bottom).

Maybe not as high resolution  as wireless w/VD but still pretty good (and a lot less latency).  Hopefully Link software will give better results in the near future.

Yep, it's looking good with the latest update + OTT at 3664 and distortion curvature Low. As above the Desktop is getting close to wireless/VD with 1.4SS.
It's gona be awesome when they unleash native res 🙂
