Hi, as Live for Speed currently uses Direct mode, there is no Health and Safety message coming up. I see in the Developer Guide "All applications that use the Oculus Rift must integrate code that displays a health and safety warning when the device is used." But there is no "required text" that I can find.
Obviously (my opinion) it's not really necessary to display such a thing - you should just put a piece of paper in the box or show a message on first installation. For example, I have a real car and it's far more dangerous than a DK2, but doesn't make me wait 15 seconds or whatever while I read a safety warning.
So... (my prediction) that's something really pointless that will be relaxed in the end.
Now (my question) what about Oculus Share? When I "finish" the LFS support I'd like to re-submit LFS on Oculus Share, so it gets in the DK2 section. But that will be after we've uploaded a new official version to our site. I would hate the submission to fail due to something silly, so is there a requirement for a warning message, that must be met, for the submission to be accepted?
One more question, could we get a final test patch checked in principle before we upload our full version? I hope you see what I'm saying here, when we upload a full version to http://www.lfs.net specifically for the purpose of DK2 support, we already must know that it will pass the Oculus Share submission. But Oculus Share seems to operate on timescales of several weeks, so if you had a pre-submission check system, I fear your answer would probably come far too late. We operate on an "hours" timescale rather than days or weeks.
I'm not trying to be rude, I'm actually trying to find out how we can get LFS up there, with DK2 support, on our site and the Oculus Share site, with minimum disruption.
Yes, but you and society have 100 years of experience with the dangers of cars, and know exactly what to do to avoid the dangers. People don't fully understand the dangers of VR yet.
Anyway, I have submitted Dolphin which uses a dialog box for the Health and Safety warning instead. I'll let you know if it gets accepted or not.
What text did you put in the dialog? I haven't been able to find any recommended text. Do I need to run one of those demos and manually copy the text? Do you see my point here? Oculus aren't really helping. And as usual they are simply ignoring my question. It's not like I ask a lot of questions...
The message can be found in the Oculus SDK as the byte array of a TGA file in LibOVR/Src/CAPI/Textures/healthAndSafety.tga.h. Attached is the resulting TGA as of 0.4.1 (zipped because the forums wouldn't accept it otherwise).
Thanks. So I'm starting to think I am really correct that they don't provide text anyway, just this image. It's not thought out properly at all, that's why they can't reply. They are just scared of legal issues. And I mean scared, like a mouse is scared of a cat. Pretty sad.
