Oculus & Nvidia Partnership Dream

Hello all,

Reading through the forums, I´ve noticed that a lot of developers want to build new PC Rigs for development.
Wouldn´t it be nice if Oculus and Nvidia worked this toguether and provided a solution that is fit for developers?
There are a lot of people on these formus that have built powerfull PC Rigs but there are many others, like me, that don´t know where to start.

I think it would be great if there was a PC Rig that was approved by Oculus , with minimum (or optional maximum available) specs, that allowed us to just buy it and know that it will work for development with the Rift.
I also think that this could bring prices down since there would be a greater demand for this product.

Anyway, maybe I´m just a dreamer, but I think it would be awesome.
What do you guys think? is this too much to ask or would any of you guys buy a Rig that´s approved by Oculus and/or Nvidia?

Well, Oculus does have a list of hardware recommendations available on their site - that's as close as you'll get to an approved rig for now.

But from what I understand Oculus have been in discussion with various hardware manufacturers about creating chipsets that are optimised for virtual reality (e.g. a system where you have two nVidia cards in SLI, one for each eye). Hopefully this kind of thing will be coming out in the next 2-5 years, depending on what the uptake of VR is like amongst the gaming community. Once we have that, then you'll have your approved rig, and then some! 😄
