Does anyone use Google drive or something similar? I'm just wonder if it's worth getting and if it stores your files safely? Are there any others that are better then Google drive or is it better just getting a large Hard Drive? I'm just thinking if the Hard Drive developed a fault and I would lose all my files..

I have Google Drive and Dropbox, mainly for work stuff. I use BackBlaze as an online backup.

In this day an age, id get a large drive and have an online backup with a service that encrypts on your end so that they cannot read any of your files.

@LZoltowski - Does BackBlaze encrypt things at my end? Also, does it just a backup your Hard Drive? Like take an image or your Hard Drive or something?

Yes its all encrypted for you, I have 8TB's worth of drives being continuously backed up to the cloud. Not an an image per say, but all the files apart from Applications (as those can be easily re-installed). You have an option for a complete snapshot should you wish.

If you need to restore something small, you log into the service and get your file. If you need to restore the whole thing, they will send you a thumb drive or a hard drive with all of your data on it ("encrypted"). You can even keep them for a small fee.

$5 a month, unlimited storage, per computer.

For recovery, downloading back is free, and for physical media:

"Have a USB Flash Drive (128GB for $99) or a USB Hard Drive (up to a 4TB for $189) sent to you via FedEx. You can even send the drive back to Backblaze within 30 days for a refund or keep it."

@LZoltowski  - So you can also use it for unlimited video content? I have lots of family videos taking up loads of room on my Hard Drives, so could they also be uploaded and kept safe? Or do they cap the amount of storage for videos?

You can upload anything. I store all of my work files on there too, about 3 TB of video

I use Dropbox for personal stuff (mainly when I need to transfer files between my phone, laptop, surface and desktop) because I've had it the longest.
I use Google Drive for work, because my college has a corporate account or whatever it's called, so practically unlimited storage.

I don't use either for backing up stuff though.

I use both older hard drives that have no use in my PC and Google Drive. I tested DropBox but wasn't overly impressed and dropped them within a couple of months.

I don't use the Google Drive app, though - I upload stuff manually. I think their rates are pretty good and I don't upload anything sensitive, so encryption is not required. I decided to use online storage after first a hard drive fill of manuals and so-on went kaputt on my notebook, then my android tablet fried the SD card in it and that was another 32GB of documents up in smoke - literally!

So I collated all the documents again (hope I got them all, anyway) on my laptop and then left it for an afternoon, uploading the entire library. Now the documents are as safe as they can be, and I can refer to them any time, on any of my devices. Very useful for gaming (referring to maps, guides, walkthroughs, checklists for sims etc etc). And furthermore, I couldn't give a rat's ass if they copy the data or publish it elsewhere. Oh - an addeed advantage is being able to use their own editors etc - in things like Google Docs. I can work on documents online that way, without having to have the editor program installed on my PC. Also, I don't know if it's only available for Google account holders or for everyone, but I use their Google Sites for free websites, too - like this:

You can make any kind of website you want, and it costs nuffink.

PS - I forgot, another advantage of Google Drive is that you can share them with anyone. The public, individual people, a group etc etc - and you decide what they can do - view or edit. Same with the websites. I have a large number of docs  shared in the flight sim community.
