Dreaming about being in VR

Kevinaki

I never had dreams about being in VR until I got the Gear VR. Once I got the CV1, dreaming I'm in VR became more frequent. One time I actually fell asleep with my headset on and had a dream I was in VR. Imagine how I felt when I actually woke up and still had the headset on. I'm sure reading Ready Player One and watching Sword Art Online contributed to my dreams.

Anyone else having dreams about being in VR?

Yep, I have. Not sure how long ago you got your Rift. The first few weeks I had mine, it really did some strange things with my brain. I would stare at flat screens and want to move my head around and see the images in 3d with positional tracking... I had a few dreams, and ultimately it has made me question the actual reality of real life in certain ways.

Not saying that I believe we are living in the Matrix, but VR can be a trip - and one that will become even crazier in the coming years. I'm loving it!

@GenetixStudio I had the Rift since DK1 and had every version since then but did not experience dreams in the earlier versions.

I know what you mean. There's so many possibilities and after recently finishing Ready Player One, I'm ready for something similar to the OASIS. Are you a developer @GenetixStudio?

@gluebag life is a game in a way but we're not in a simulation. In real life I do not take as many risks but in games, I take ridiculous amounts of risks because I know it's not real. I do it for fun, the thrill, the "what would happen if I...", and to win by any means necessary especially in games where people are more focused on their K/D than a win for the team. If there was even the slightest chance I believed my life wasn't real, I definitely wouldn't be sitting behind a desk right now  😄

What do you think?

I wouldnt say I dream about VR, but I find, because I spend a solid time in a particualr VR environment it feels like a real location that I visit, and is etched into my memory as an actual place, unlike a game which is more like some activity I do.

Visiting the garden in my level and its music is quite peaceful, and actually relaxing to hang out in ...its kinda weird to be honest,I know its not real, but its comfortable and pleasant to be in. I know what the env is mimicing in real life, even if its obviously polygonal and lacking detail.

VR definately does give a memory of a reality event, at least for me.

VR is quite powerful.  I can say that I would not want to be interrogated with VR that's for sure.  Imagine a higher budget version of Dreadhalls where you cannot take the headset off and with real external stimulants.

It would be nice to be able to program your own dreams, kind of like they did in the Jetsons. Dreaming in VR, although exciting, is pretty exhausting because I don't feel rested when I finally do wake up. All my dreams start like they do in real life, me putting on the Rift in my home office and then it starts.

@pjenness what garden are you referring to?

@zboson never played Dreadhalls but I'm assuming it's worth getting?

I had never played Minecraft until it came out for the Rift, and since then have played it quite a bit.  I had a ream the other night in which I remember difficulty moving through different parts of my dream, feeling segmented into blocks I had to push through.  It was not a restful night.

Yes, I think it's a must-have experience, but be warned that even after a stiff drink, you may want to have your adult diapers on before venturing in...

I am a developer - but haven't made much in VR at all. I mostly develop 2d games, but have been experimenting with a lot more 3d recently and hoping to build some kind of VR application in the next year. I've got a game on Steam called "Rogue Harvest" - if you (or anyone here) want a free key let me know! I've also got about 30 apps on Google Play which have over 5 million combined downloads, but sadly I've learned that you can make a simple Fart button app in 45 minutes that will be far more successful then a deep RPG that you spend a year developing, so I am moving away from the mobile market.
