Game Remakes you would like to see

I was just talking with one of my friends the other day about game remakes - what with the System Shock remake apparently being in jeopardy.

I think that so long as the original is preserved and playable that remakes are a good thing - especially for gaming as some of my favourite games from the 90s/early millennium just do not translate that well anymore due to limitations of the graphics engine or even basic things like control mapping.

Some of the games I'd like to see remade are:

Cybermage: Darklight Awakening - a lost and forgotten Cyberpunk shooter, not quite an immersive sim - but did a lot of what Half Life did before Half Life. Something that I think could be remade in the Build Engine to great effect.

No One Lives Forever - probably not the most cost effective game to remake, so many levels in different locations with tons of assets created for each location. I think this game would benefit from some cutting down of certain elements (cutscenes, etc.) but the objective based stealth shooter game play and narrative would translate well to a modern engine.

Soul Blazer - I know that this is not the best Zelda rip-off ever, but damn did I love this game as a kid - defeating enemies and unlocking parts of the world was just so much fun.
Remaking this one might be a little harder - because I am not sure the gameplay would translate to 3d all to well, and a 2d remaster could very well end up being as terrible as the Chrono Trigger PC release. But if done right this game would definitely get my money again.

So what remakes would you like to see?

I am still not sure I'd like to be Guybrush in first person (don't get me wrong, the idea of visiting Monkey Island's worlds in first person is intriguing beyond imagination) but part of my love of of that series in particular (and pretty much all LucasArts adventures) is the animations including the main (player) character.

That said - it would definitely work and I would buy it in a heartbeat. I also think it could still be done in 3rd person with no issues solely based on my experience with Lucky's Tale.

Yeah, Grim Fandango was pseudo 3d 3rd person, maybe some variation of something like that.
Core i7-7700k @ 4.9 Ghz | 32 GB DDR4 Corsair Vengeance @ 3000Mhz | 2x 1TB Samsung Evo | 2x 4GB WD Black
ASUS MAXIMUS IX HERO | MSI AERO GTX 1080 OC @ 2000Mhz | Corsair Carbide Series 400C White (RGB FTW!)

Be kind to one another 🙂

So was the 4th Monkey Island... though I can't remember if it was actually good or if I just liked it because I was a kid when I played.

Grim Fandango is objectively good for the most part (a couple of puzzles that are annoying) - I played it when I was like 11 or 12 and I thought it was great but when I played the remaster as an adult I realized how much was actually lost on me the first time.

I mean it is funny - as far as perspectives go for almost everything I prefer the first person perspective (going as far to play as many 3rd person action games in first person if it is possible via mod or hack). But I think because my memory remembers certain p 'n' c games are more like movies than games that I have an unwillingness to view them in first person which giving more thought to is kind of erroneous.

@LZoltowski You are right in that it could be done with well - as you could illustrate the main character you are playing via mirrors/world reflections etc. and the VR hands could be stylized in the same way as what the character would look like.

Now as far as style goes in something like that - I think Monkey Island 3 is the most obvious choice as it would be the most commercially appealing in VR. But a more pixelated approach might look cool in interpretation of the 1st or 2nd game - make everything still very high-definition especially in as far as world scale and clutter are concerned but mirror a pixel/voxel art style with a limited colour pallet you could create some really interesting virtual spaces.

Hell what I am seeing in my mind's eye is Obduction filtered through LucasArts SCUMM - I'd love to see an adventure game like that especially if it included things like using the mic to interact with NPCs (something like insult wars).

G-Police VR please... until somebody does it or I learn how to make VR games I'll just occasionally jump into aircar and pretend lol

MIdwinter is a good call too, that could be awesome.
