So, I had to toss out my chair today, which I've had for many years. It was just getting too worn down; which leaves me sitting on wood and aluminum piece of crap. So 'tis the time I start looking for a chair.

I would love to get the Emperor chair:



But alas, it is way the hades out of my budget atm. Perhaps once OVR v3 is released, and I sell off my FaceBook stock, but for now, I'm thinking about the Realspace Pro mesh chair from Office Depot. However, that !@#$ thing is $400. For that kind of money, I could get a damn beanbag and a DK2... Just saying.

So, what is the collective thoughts from the OVR community? What do you guys sit in for days, even months, on end without getting up?

Cool! But, that chair does look like something Dr. Evil would have doesn't it? 😉 All it needs is a space for a 'mini me' and your there! Just a comfy chair and ergonomic desk is fine! 🙂

just buy something comfortable. srsly these things are made to break no matter what you pay. I've gone through 2x $300+ chairs, one lasted 2.5 years, the other for only 1 year. I've used a $100 chair, lasted me almost 2 years.

instead of buying the chair, buy the printer to print each new chair as the need arrives
you can print a cuphold for the 3d printer chair you own and cut off a chunk of the chair and replace it with a cupholder

while you're putting in the cupholder power it and it will cooll the item too!

i was flamed on a thread for suggesting it would be cheaper to buy a 3d printer and make your own oculus rift with a 3d print kit.. it may have cost twice as much but you get twice the items


and then you spend another 300$ on filament and you print cubes to glue to each other andmake a chair

if you need a different chair you melt the cubes and run the printer without printing so it makes the melted pieces into new filament.. it is very future resistant for the similar cost to what you want to have made for you.

To me, nothing can beat the Kab seating. These are the seats used in process control centers, and are designed to remain comfortable when sitting for extended durations, like a 24-hour monitoring shift. My favorite of theirs is the "controller". Fairly pricey, but you get what you pay for......

haha that chair does look pretty amazing; for an inexpensive but fantastic chair, I would recommend the Lorell mesh exectuive high-back chair. I can sit in it for hours and not feel any back pain. It's rated #1 here http://www.squidoo.com/ergonomic-officechair

I have been endlessly disappointed in office chairs. I ended up building my own for about the same price.



I'd recommend this to anyone, it's way more stable and I can just replace the cover when it starts to wear down. The seat under it will last me a lifetime.

Will try and track down the name of the last office chair I had. Eighteen years of varying severity of back problems, then two of *zero* pain when I got in one of those things.
