Installer gave me two errors

2EyeGuy
Adventurer
I got two errors running the installer.
First, it said something like a reboot is pending, reboot your computer before running the installer. But the installer continued installing after that.
Next, I think it said "This app requires the 1.2.x version of the Oculus Display Driver.", although it's possible I was still running Tuscany and that error dialog was already on the screen. But I think it came from the installer.
Then it continued installing and said it had installed correctly.
Then it said to complete installation it had to reboot the computer. Out of curiosity, I tried running Tuscany anyway, and it still gave me the error, so now I'm going to restart like it told me too.

Odd. When you installed the new SDK, did you uninstall the old SDK and perform a reboot prior to installing the new SDK?

Everything went smoothly here, but I did the uninstall, reboot, install, reboot before I tested the Tuscany demo scene.

This was from a 0.4.3 to 0.4.4. straight upgrade?

For this message:

This app requires the 1.2.x version of the Oculus Display Driver.

This is to make sure that the runtime/sdk and driver are in sync (so you can't have 0.4.4 with the 0.4.3 driver, for example).

This message is popping up because the new service is installed, but the driver doesn't completely update until a reboot. This will be fixed in the next drop for the group. The fix will be to not start the service until a reboot.

Second message is, we're preventing the Display Driver install if there is a pending system reboot. So in your case, the main runtime installer kicked off the MSI install of the Display Driver, but that exited because you had a pending system reboot. Right now, this doesn't tell the main installer to exit and roll-back. We'll update that for the next release.

To unblock you now, you should just need to run the runtime installer again.

After rebooting I see error message again twice, and the config utility can't detect the Rift. Here is the log:

And of course Oculus World Demo 0.4.4 doesn't work. Interestingly, Oculus World Demo 0.4.3 DOES work, even though I can't select my profile or change my settings.
I'm going to try running the installer again and see if that helps.

EDIT: NOPE! Same error! "Oculus Display Driver (Install Only)" "/!\ There is a system reboot pending. Please reboot your system and run the installer again" "OK".
But it didn't give me the other error this time. I'm going to let it reboot my computer now like it's asking and see what happens.

So after a reboot, you're running the 0.4.4 installer, and getting that message?

Can you check two things for me?

1. Do you have any Windows Updates pending?
2. Do you have an entry for PendingFileRenameOperations in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\ (in your registry).

I rebooted again and installed again (for the third time) and got the same pending error and this time the 1.2.x error again. It told me to reboot, but I went to the webpage to post a message like this, using history to go to that part of the forum, but then while typing the message it went to the new facebook Oculus login page and my computer crashed and switched itself off. It does that sometimes when it gets too hot, but it didn't feel hot this time.

On starting the computer (I don't know if that counts as a reboot) I get the 1.2.x error twice.

In registry editor I can see HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\FileRenameOperations\
But it is empty and says only: (Default) REG_SZ (value not set)

Now I'm going to try running the installer to see if it works...

Fourth time is a charm. I guess the crash did the trick. Maybe letting Oculus reboot like it wanted was part of the problem. Or maybe it is just luck. Anyway it is installing for me now without errors.

But people shouldn't have to run your installer 4 times with reboots every time.

It is telling me it is time for another reboot, then I can actually test it.

After you boot back up, can you check to see see if you have "PendingFileRenameOperation" or "FileRenameOperations" still in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\"?

The Display Driver checks a Windows System Property to see if there's a reboot pending, which should get cleared out after a reboot.

I'm trying to track down what on your machine was still triggering that property, and I think it might be the "FileRenameOperations" key.

Thanks again for the back-and-forth. This is extremely helpful.

Firstly... there's a bug in your forum. When I tried to post this message before (it appeared I was logged in), I clicked Submit and it took me to the login screen and after logging in my message was gone.

After rebooting for the fourth time, following the first successful installation, it booted up without the two 1.2.x errors and everything is working fine.

That registry key is now the same as it was before the successful installation, the Registry folder "FileNameOperations" exists, but is empty.

Sorry I didn't get your message about the registry key until it was too late to check if that was what was causing the problem.

Anyway, it is all installed now, and working, so now I'm going to start testing and posting runtime/sdk bugs in other threads.

Sorry for the lost post, I'll file a ticket with the web-team.
