Elite Dangerous 1.3 Release - Questions

CrazyNorman

As of today Elite: Dangerous released an update based upon the 1.3 SDK.  A few questions:

  1. Is this an NDA violation, or can we safely release builds based upon 1.3 prior to Monday?
  2. Will software built against 1.3 today work with the publicly released 1.3 run-time on Monday?
  3. Will software released today, built against 1.3, still be allowed to run on Monday if not installed via the Oculus Store?  I understand that this is a sensitive issue, but we're 4 days away.  I need time to prep my software for whatever release mechanism is necessary come Monday and it's pretty unfair to developers for Oculus not to release an official policy this close to launch.

I only see SDK 1.2.1 and not 1.3 at https://developer2.oculus.com/sdk - is there a 1.3 SDK available to some developers?

I think you're right, the latest SDK is still 1.2.1 while Elite was likely referencing the latest current runtime?

I just got an email from Oculus about the 1.3 SDK:

Oculus Rift 1.3 SDK

On
Monday we will be launching the Oculus Rift 1.3 SDK. This is the
version of the SDK you will need to build for in order to launch your
game or application. As you know, the pre-release versions of the Oculus
SDK (0.9, 1.0, 1.1 and 1.2) were provided under NDA and should not be
used to make a pre-1.3 SDK build available or for any other purposes.

The
new SDK will be available on our developer center, alongside updated
info on how to submit your game or application for consideration on the
Oculus platform. It also includes details on how to generate keys for
use in distributing your app on other stores. Oculus does not take a rev
share for copies sold using our keys.

We’re looking forward to seeing what you’re building and helping you ship great content for the Oculus Store & Platform!
