Hourglass a few minutes in

Hey,

I have recently got my Oculus + controllers, hooked them up, everything works nicely.

I can play Oculus app games with the controller and remote, and I can even play Vive games on Steam with the Touch controls.
All is good, except, in certain games, without a noticeable reason, after a few minutes, my headset view becomes black and I can only see a white hourglass in the bottom right.

I'm confused because on my monitor, I can see the game window running fine with headtracking and controller tracking as well.

So I'm unsure what to do and how to solve this problem.
(and no, I don't have TeamViewer installed, which seemed to be the blame for this bug on other forums)

I have this same problem. I thought maybe it was my HDMI repeater overheating or something, but I suppose it could also be a software problem. I have this happening the most in Job Simulator.

The headset itself gets a bit warm, and I'm hoping it's not overheating.

It seems to work fine with Oculus Store apps, however with steam games, it blacks out after a few minutes.
And even if I enable the Steam VR mirror window, I can see the game just fine through it, but not through the headmount itself.

I too have this issue, I dont think its an issue with an HDMI repeater as Im not using one.

It could be an issue with SteamVR itself.

I would be glad to know that there isn't anything wrong with my hardware.

I've had this only in some SteamVR games, most notably Longbow in the lab. Pressing or touching either of the grip buttons seems to trigger this problem reasonably reliably.

What GPUs do you guys have?

I find if you're hour glassing then something must be taking control of the screen, such as the Windows 10 gamer window or a game hub that comes with your GPU drivers?

I have this issue quite often. Some games produce it more than others,  but it looks like given enough time it will occur everywhere.

using nvidia 980ti.

The are no error messages on the Oculus side of things, everything looking normal.
On steamvr side, there's just one line:
"IPCPipe(VR_Pipe): Waiting on event failed in SendMessageInternal with res 0 and error 232"
