Setup for Touch + Guardian is suboptimal

Hey guys, so I just re-ran setup using the new method, and the thing is pretty bad. Restrictions on camera distance is way too strict, 3-6 feet is ridiculously small. two months ago, using MultiCameraRecenter.exe, I had two cameras at 8 feet apart or so that tracked the controllers fine. You're going to get complaints on that, especially with the advertised 3 cameras for roomscale and various publications telling users the cameras don't need to be super close to track well...

Additionally, angle adjustment is too picky. During the process the Home desktop app should tell the user they don't need to put on their headset. Also, drawing borders for setting guardian is pretty clumsy. You should make it into a 'point' system that can draw a polygon or box. Setup should take only one try to get right- it took multiple tries for the camera distances and then their angles.

I hope to see improvements in the setup process, especially if I move a camera or something and just need a quick recenter. I don't really want to re-run that setup every step every time I do.

Wait, is this an actual restriction or just something you can skip? Last time I ran the setup, you were able to skip your way through.

I ran through setup a second time and I'm going to have to revise my post a bit- on the second run, you have the option to skip most steps. I have not tested what happens on skipping the steps.

If you want the app to approve of your sensor's locations, it's super strict, and won't move on until you meet the requirements.

I am going to have to take back what I said about the guardian boundary settings though- it's actually really clever now that I see how it's done.

Yeah, we are working on the warning. For now I think you can just place the sensors wherever you like and click skip on that step (it will still detect and calibrate when it does the scan).

@cybereality
last time I checked it also skipped the guardian setup when doing that

Just re-ran the setup and initial sensor placement routines post the 1.10 update. Made more sense now with skippable stages that allowed me to move onwards even though my camera placement and orientation wasn't 'optimal'. Successfully set up one 3rd sensor mounted high at the rear, and two front facing sensors 1.5 meters apart at the front. Floor height seems to be correct now too.

I just re-ran the setup as well post the 1.10 update. As you said JulianB, it's much better now! Good job guys! I also absolutely LOVE the Touch Tutorial! It's got a really awesome 1980's feel. I felt like I was in Ready Player One, so cool!

Is there a way to draw the guardian bounds with clickety corner points instead of continuous line?
My guardian mesh looks like a boov has drawn it!

EDIT: And not to just be whingeing, The avatar setup is great fun! (though it was a bit hard to scroll the options in the mirror)

What is the Touch Tutorial!? I want 80s! 🙂

@Fredrum The touch tutorial I'm referring to is available under library --> Scroll to bottom --> "First Contact"
It's fantastic!

Also, Fred, did you try using the joystick to scroll through avatar stuff? I first thought you had to use the mirror buttons too, but the joystick works too. I would also enjoy a corner points click for guardian instead of a continuous line.

For guardian, I find myself drawing a small play space then expanding it by swiping, it works pretty well, no need to draw a line, just swipe to expand your space. I personally think that you could have the user walk as far forward as they can go, click, as far backward, click, as far left, right, then let them expand the selection after. It'd be much easier directions too.

Bummer I can't find anything called 'First Contact' maybe it is something they have to set you up with?
Cool i'll try the joystick scrolling next time! And your swipey trick.
