In VR Player under Media you need to set Format to Side by Side and Projection to Dome
Until recently there was no way to get good synchronization reliably with recent Gopros for stereo but there is now a sync cable you can buy from http://3dguy.tv/ which works well. I am not sure if the concept behind it can be extended to work with more than 2 cameras
Basically my rig for this video looks like this http://www.mediavr.com/gopro3plusfisheyestereorig.jpg with replacement Sunex lenses to get about 180 by 150 degree coverage on the 1920 by 1440 format on the Gopros
It is very simple to shoot 3d for the Rift with this because all you need to do is hold the camera level and point it generally in the right direction.
I've been following all of your posts here for the past few months. Super helpful! I've been toying around with a pair of Sony HDR-AS15 ActionCams to try out a 170° 3D video with a pretty hacked together tripod and mount rig. I want to start really small to practice and understand the basics all the way from recording videos up to post production.
The biggest problem I have is in post production. I'm not exactly sure how the videos should be vertically and horizontally aligned?
I'm using After Affects/Premiere Pro. The first thing I do is put the first video on top of the second video, put the first video's opacity to 50%, then I try to manually align the first video to the second video. Should all corners of objects in the video be perfectly-aligned vertically with each other? Or are there the corners of the objects are a little higher/lower than each other naturally?
Do I mainly focus on vertically aligning the objects in the center of my video, and let everything else fall into place?
And horizontal aligning, if I perfectly align an object horizontally, that means both eyes are looking perfectly straight, correct? So would I perfectly align the furthest objects (trees, hills, etc.), or do I perfectly align the closest objects (the people I'm filming about 5-10 feet in front of the camera)? If I perfectly align something in between furthest and closest, that means the closer objects would "pop out" of the screen, right? Which is bad if that object goes off screen?
Right now, the videos I'm outputting are REALLY uncomfortable to watch, like my eyes are not naturally focusing on stuff. I could make the 3D work, but I have to strain myself to get it working and that can't be any good for the eyes.
You can get free demos of most stitching apps. Color AutoPanoVideo, VideoStitch and PTGui are all available.
These line up multiple points automatically and align the images the best they can. They also de-fish the image (remove the distortion caused by fisheyes) Because 2 or more cameras won't match exactly there will be some mismatch which is why it tries to line up as goo as possible and it's up to you to determine the actual split line if you're not happy with it.
Hi, new on this board and in the process of getting a stereo 180 rig. This topic provided me with a lot of information.
My budget is around 1500 euro. I was thinking of getting two Nikon D5300 bodies with two 8mm 180 Fisheye lenses. The nikons are able to shoot 1080p 60fps (maybe only 50fps for Europe?) so they could be synced in post based on a flash or clapper from what I understand. Camera will mainly be in fixed position indoors. No need for fast movement recording.
Will this setup work, or do you guys have better suggestions for my budget?
Hi, I am also new to this board. And new into the game. And I guess that many of you have solved some of the issues. I am planning to film so the audience get to feel the perspective of being another person POV 3d 180 with blacked out in the back. We have been trying set ups with 360 xiaomi yi but think now that it is to annoying to use the full spectra and intead focusing the audience perspective through another body. My experience with this is that it get much more immersive to see it through another person. You are not interested to see what is happening behind you when you are another person. Unless the character is pointing that way. Could someone provide me with some help using two gopro 4 black with wide lenses and the mounting for a helmet that will be used by the actor. I guess you also need to hook up an lcd screen so you could follow the shooting. Is it possible to go with gopro 4 or do we still need to have gopro3 with sync cable in order to sync? I also wonder about meassurements when mounting them? And last, the workflow when done filming. We used autopano for the 360. And I talked to izugar about their lenses and they had a template for autopano. Could that be a solution? Or just work with it in finalcut? Thank you so much.
