but i assume it is searching updates till it finds out...hm...no internet, no updates

quest link in general is a big crap, but still the cheapest option for playing pcvr titles

Right now we cant do anything about that issue, only hoping it doesn't get worse with each update

Hey there @huy.494073 and @ChizuruTheNeko!

We understand that you're having some issues with the Quest Link app loading a long time while your PC is offline. We would love to help you with this, but first we would like to ask you two a few questions, so that we can get a better understanding of this issue to see where it come from and find a fix for you.

We would like to ask:

  • Are you using a secure network? Some open/unrestricted networks can cause delays and issues with our Meta Quest Link app.
  • Do you have any Firewall/Proxy configurations? Some configurations may prevent the Meta Quest Link app from being able to accurately communicate with our Meta servers.
  • Are you using a Antivirus software? Antivirus software may interrupt or slow down the Meta Quest Link app’s ability to access information from our Meta servers.
  • Does this issue happen while your PC is online?
  • Is any error message shown or is it just a long wait time?
  • Could you also tell us the approximate difference in time, between the Link app loading while your PC is offline and online?

This will help us get a clearer view of this issue and help find a solution, so that you can get back to enjoying the world of PCVR without a long wait time.

Alternatively, if you wish to continue this discussion in private for a more personal and faster experience, then you can always reach out to us in our PM's about this issue.

@MetaQuestSupport

I have the same problem, and here's the details in my case:

  • I am using my home network (which is secure and not open/unrestricted).
  • The issue still persists when I disable all of my custom rules in Windows Defender Firewall. I have no other Firewall/Proxy configurations.
  • I am using no Antivirus software other than Windows security.
  • This issue only happens while my PC is offline,
OR when I use the Firewall to block all apps from accessing the internet,
OR when I block OVRServer_x64.exe specifically.
  • It is just a long wait time.
  • The loading time of the Link app is around 10-20 seconds when my PC is online, and around 2 Minutes 20 seconds when it is offline (OR when I use Windows Firewall to block *all apps* at once from accessing the internet), and even longer when I only block OVRServer_x64.exe specifically.

I am on version 76.0.0.452.315 (76.0.0.452.315).

I can tell for certain that I did not have this issue yet on version 74.0.0.675.347.

Follow-up, mostly for other users - summary: there is not yet a fix, please submit a bug report if you want Meta to fix this bug.

I just had a frustrating conversation with Meta Support to help them identify the cause of the problem.

They first gave me the boilerplate troubleshooting steps (repair app, reinstall app),

which -as expected- didn't help. Then I sent them my log files.(*)

Then they told me to repair/reinstall again.

Then, after I mentioned the issue for the fourth time (slow startup when offline),

they agreed it's likely a bug in the app and recommended to submit a bug report and make a post about the issue on the idea forum (which @huy.494073 of course already did here).

It seems the app tries to “phone home” on every start and waits quite a long time for an answer before giving up.

I don’t know if this is intentional to accommodate for people with slower internet speed (even though I imagine there would be a clear difference between “slow” and “nothing”), but in this case I suggest adding a toggle in the app settings such as “wait longer for Meta servers during app launch”.

So again, no fix yet, please submit a bug report if you want Meta to fix this bug. Instructions from Meta Support:

"At this time, you can only submit a bug report through the Meta Horizon App, or within Standalone Mode on your Meta Quest Headset. This can be done on the app by following these steps:

On your phone, open the Meta Horizon app. Tap Menu at the top of your Horizon Feed. Scroll down to Support, then tap Report an issue. Tap Report a problem, then type an explanation where prompted. Tap Send in the top right.

Alternatively, you can submit a bug report on the headset, by following these steps:

Press Meta button/ Oculus button on your right Touch controller to open the Navigator. On the right, select Quick controls. Select Report problem. Select Include or Don't include to add complete logs and diagnostics. Follow the instructions to submit your report."

(*) which at first they were not able receive because the Meta mail server gave an error "Message size violation". My 3 MB log files apparently were too large.
