UlraHaptics- Perfect for the Rift?

Saw this on the feeds this morning and was suitably impressed with their haptics solution.

Notice how they project the display image due to no current display tech being 'acoustically transparent' ? Sounds like a perfect reason to get rid of the display panel entirely and use an HMD. Now the transducer array they show is very small and tightly packed to create maximum pressure within their active sensing region, but couldn't a more largely spaced array of at least a square meter and a suitable depth sensor enable a much larger and more usable responsive workspace? Thoughts?

It's cool, but if you want haptics of any reasonable strength, your eardrums will probably pop first.
...Or the blood vessels in your hand rupture or something similarly unpleasant.

The problem is that you have to use A LOT of really high intensity ultrasonic waves to get a couple high pressure zones.
I'd still like for the technology to be explored further though.

Also, tech is unsuited for an HMD for the same reason the Leap is unsuited for HMD use... Unless you want to do a head mounted version which brings us back to point one, but magnified a couple orders of magnitude.
