Hi team,
I'm getting micro lags and stutter in Airlink on my Quest 3 (EU/UK), esp. when moving my head. In the Oculus debug overlay this causes brief spikes in transmit/decode, fps drops and visible stuttering. The issue is not present on my Quest Pro with otherwise identical settings - see below screenshots to illustrate.
Few more details:
- Issue is not present on Quest Pro with same settings on HMD, router and PC (using same res)
- Issue is worse at higher bitrates, esp. >200mbps, but still present <200mbps
- Issue is unrelated to PC/game latencies (CPU, GPU, Queue each <5ms)
- Stutters/lags are intermittent (every 10-20 seconds) when not moving but happen immediately and reproducibly when moving the head to either side or especially looking downwards (i.e. on any bigger headset movements)
- Wifi 6E router (TP Link AXE75 EU/UK)
- EDIT: exact same issue with Asus RT-AXE7800 (EU/UK) wifi 6e router
- Connection shows as 2,400mbps
- Airlink codec H264 (but same on other codecs)
- I've attempted factory resetting, installing latest drivers
- Updated to v62 and latest Quest Link desktop version (I can see the 120hz option for my Q3)
- EDIT: Ordered a separate Quest 3 for testing: presents the exact same issue
-EDIT: Same issue on 5ghz 802.11ax 160mhz BUT switching to 802.11ac (!) completely fixed the issue. I cant test this on 6ghz but looks like 802.11ax or something related to how q3 implements it is the culprit
As the issue is worse the higher the bitrate and not present on Q Pro with otherwise same settings, I suspect it's related to the below known Wifi issues - but opening a new thread as instructed.

Best,

QPro
Updates:
- Tried separate router: exact same issue with Asus RT-AXE7800 wifi 6e router
- Ordered a separate Quest 3: exact same issue on both routers
-Same issue on 5ghz 802.11ax 160mhz BUT switching to 802.11ac (!) completely fixed the issue. I cant test this on 6ghz but looks like 802.11ax or something related to how q3 implements it is the culprit
Solved! Go to Solution.

Not gonna dig through 100's of pages in that thread, the youtuber that tested the issues apparently had them return eventually, so there is that.

Meta Quest 3 Build v.65 has been released, and guess who decided to make a reappearance? The negotiation rate bug is back, baby! It's fluctuating from 2401 Mbps to 1729-1440 Mbps every 4-5 seconds. Now, I know some of you have had problems with versions 63 and 64 too, but now, "finally," I also get to rejoin the club! Hooray... However, it's a lot less noticeable than it was pre v.62. At least we are getting full speed periodically, but the fluctuating speeds will still lead to some random frame drops. This time, though, we have proof of how it's supposed to work, without people blaming us for having "too high expectations." I'm guessing Meta will patch it back up as long as people use the "report a problem" function.
Thing is that these issues are on/off or not even present at all for some people. I suppose it's quite tricky to debug, especially from our perspective.
If meta were to admit that it's a hardware issue, that would be very expensive for them. So I actually believe that they're still investigating. I understand it's frustrating though.
For me it's more or less "dealing" with it. It's annoying, especially in Beat Saber, but it's still usable.
Still, Meta, please do better.

I'm am not sure it is a hardware issue. There were months when I purchased the headset that things worked smoothly.
Them with nothing on my end changing things went to crap. I then start testing our my network appliances and then went as far to buy the new netgear wifi7 router and dedicate it to the quest. That was a waste btw... quest doesn't the new higher rate bands.
I went from being a daily quest player to maybe playing once or twice a week on native stuff. I am tempted to just get a PICO for pcvr and shelve the quest3 unless I am traveling.

You don't have to read everything. The problem is the same, I have it myself, I have tried various ideas and solutions. Nothing works. I specifically bought a router for 500 euros thinking that it was a router problem. Meta doesn't want to answer this problem, so I figured he had strong reasons and the problem was unsolvable.
I've given up hope that Meta will do something and I simply don't use Wi-Fi for things that require precision like BeatSaber. Just a link.
And yes, for some it works and for some it doesn't. Even on the same router. The problem is that the same model released for Europe is different from the router released for the US market (different Wi-fi 6 band ranges). Therefore, people will look for a solution, hoping that it will work because it works for someone.

that stuttering is the exact same thing I get. I also get a lot of dropped frames in airlink unless I sleep the headset and wake it up again while connected to pc through WiFi. It only happens in quest 3, not the quest pro. If I use steam vr I just get the stuttering but no frame drops, if I use virtual desktop, then it’s much worse. I get 90fps which I have it set to on airlink with some micro stutter few times a minute, but it can be worse.

This is exactly my experience , was working fine, then not, then factory reset my new £700 router, working fine again, and now its not, i've given up troubleshooting this, i have other people that need the internet so i cannot keep changing router settings rebooting, factory resetting , just to get the quest 3 working again.
My first venture into vr , was waiting for the first good headset for wireless gameplay , sadly this is not the case.

Have you tried the wire? I’m thinking about getting a usb WiFi card to use for airlink, just researching at the moment. I do have a 5ghz WiFi card but I live in a saturated 5ghz area, but I have seen on the net that dedicated WiFi adapters exist. Just don’t know what they are called.

Meta should release the old version of the os which worked. Just for those of us who only use pcvr.

not tried wired. reason i got quest 3 was wireless, dont even have the quest app on my pc.
The annoying thing is we all know it does work wirelessly , i have had it working perfectly, but when nothing changes and suddenly you get these stuttering problems it's very frustrating.

It's shocking to me no one has mentioned this issue is on stand-alone as well. I have tested this bug considerably and it occurs in stand-alone even in the standard menu on both passthrough and non-pass through. It it much more subtle and difficult to notice than it is on Link but it is there. I have done everything including factory resetting my headset and turning off WiFi completely to the headset and the slight jitter every 3-5 seconds remains. I am guessing it is either one of two things, a hardware problem with the video processing, or a bug introduced from an update. If it's a hardware issue I don't think Meta will admit it because that's going to be a considerable problem.
