Cannot Paint Tri-Mesh

Meta Horizon World Builder using a Quest 3. No matter what I build, even just set out a simple block into a new world. When I try to paint the block I get an error message "cannot paint tri-mesh". 😓

I'm so stuck and can't seem to move past this, even after hours and hours of trying to find the answer myself. I suddenly feel like the only person with this issue. 🤣

Help would be greatly appreciated. 🙏

No, you definitely aren’t the only one. I’m having the same issue.

Maybe when more people start reporting it, it will get fixed. But until then I'm dead in the water and can't work.

Hi Yes I experienced the same thing - if you use primitives and not trimesh objects you can paint them just fine. I had a discovery today regarding trimesh that has left me very frustrated, I had brought in some assets from the assets library, trees, tent,  and some smaller objects, after spending two weeks building my world, went to hit publish and got a message saying unable to publish as world had pre-release assets. After some searching online, I think that the issue is when you start with a primitive world you can’t add trimesh and vice versa. You can identify trimesh objects by looking at the info panel of the object in the top left corner if you see a simple cube symbol it is a primitive, if you see a more complex symbol it’s a trimesh. I am now having to recreate the trimesh assets as primitives - it is quite frustrating as it is not clear when importing asses from the assets library. The world works and looks fine in unpublished mode, just aren’t allowed to publish due to trimesh assets 🙄 It’s a learning experience and at least I have learnt stuff along the way. So for now I will just be using primitives to create assets myself and forego the trimesh more detailed objects until meta decide to allow them to be published! Good luck with it all!

That should be ASSETS not asses 😂

Hi see my reply above 😊

Hi! I have the solution to this! You CAN “paint” or “texture” trimesh shapes. There are two ways to do it. If you’re just trying to use the paint feature in HW here’s how you can change the color of a trimesh shapes:

1. Pull out the shape you want.
2. Go into the properties of that shape and select “Attributes”.
3. Open your build menu, go to “paint” and select your desired color.

4. Go back to your properties menu and scroll to the bottom. You’ll see where you can add your color (it will be white by default) add your color to that area the same you’d color a block.
5. Right below that you’ll see “Tint”, drag that slider to the right to make it “1”. You’ll see your color change. So exciting, right?

6.  Below that you’ll see “Brightness”. Adjust that slider to your desired brightness. The lower the number, the darker the color.  The higher the number, the lighter the color.
7.  Close your properties panel and enjoy your new color!

The second way is to use Blender to bring in textures and then apply the texture that way. I’m unfamiliar with this process. But I know some people in the program has texture files they are sharing as well as worlds with textures blocks. Good luck!
