Constant Your device needs to cool down for optimal performance message after Gear VR update

Hi, thanks for reading 🙂

I have a S8 that I got new with the VR headset back when the S8 came out.  I 97% only use the VR for watching movies on airplanes, though I have spent several hours at a time looking around at various things in full 360 VR without ever having any kind of errors or issues, heat or otherwise.  I last used my headsets on 2 flights in November of 2018 where I watched an entire movie on each leg of my flight - ~3 hours each way.

I am now on vacation and got onto the plane and was greeted with a message saying that I had to disconnect the VR and update the software before being able to use it, which was very frustrating as I basically had to thumb my fingers for 5 hours instead of watching movies.  This annoying behavior happened to me once before about a year ago and I usually fire it up before I leave, but I forgot this time...

Now that I'm here on vacation I wanted to make sure it would work for the return trip home, and I update to the latest drivers / software, and now whenever I do anything whatsoever in the VR for 20-30 mins, everything stops and I get a dark screen saying that my device needs to cool down for optimal performance.

I've read other people with this issue and they've solved it by getting fans or putting aluminum foil or some kind of heatsink on their phone, but they've all been talking about "gaming" and whatnot - I've never played a game using these, I just want to watch a movie, and as I've said, I've never had any issues whatsoever even after 5-6 hours of continuous use on a plane.
I opened a support ticket asking if there was a way to disable this warning or roll back to the old software, but they're just giving me the runaround saying that I need to turn everything off and not use bluetooth, set the brightness to 0 and use airplane mode, and then call Samsung because there's a problem with my phone, but as I've said I've never had a problem in the past and my phone is perfectly fine other than this.

The only change that has been made to my phone since 11/18 when I last used the VR was the Android 9 update, and any possible updates Samsung has rolled out - I doubt that these are causing the issue, but I include the information to be thorough.

Anybody know of any way to disable the overheat message, or is there a repository somewhere where I can get the old versions of all the software?  I find this second option unlikely since there are so many components for Oculus in play on the phone, but I'd try the option if I could...
