Consumer VR & S6 heat issue

Is it normal for consumer Samsung Gear VR and Verizon Galaxy S6 5.1.1 Lollipop to over heat around 30 - 45 mins of usage? How are you supposed to finish a movie?

My phones keeps getting hot after 10 mins of usage. One of them is Edge 6 Plus and brand new. It is frustrating to say the least. Any recommendations besides save mode?

I have solved the overheating issue.  This is instant, cheap, light weight and silent.  I created a quick youtube video and a link on where to buy gel packs.  Currently, the vendor selling them is out of stock, but if you can find 3x5 gel packs,  your overheating issues will be solved.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfi_qPsk-o4

What the heck Oculus! I had no issue with overheating at all until the recent update I did now prevents me from using my VR headset while in power saving mode! This for me was the culprit all along. I noticed no difference in performance of games or vr experiences while running my phone in power saving mode. I could watch entire movies without having to let it cool down, now that I can't use power saving mode I can't watch a movie for more than 15 minutes without the damn phone overheating. Pisses me off, thanks a bunch. Which bright sparks decided that was a great idea? you need to fire their collective happy asses! I use my gear vr on long flights and now it's useless. What a waste of money. Please fix this and re-instate the ability to use the system while in power saving mode.

I get overheating after just a few mins of watching 360 video, especially in the Samsung Internet app. I really enjoy finding videos online so I don't see how turning internet off is a viable fix for me. Seems silly that a connected device can only run if not connected. Anyone know if the 7 or 7 edge has this problem? Thing that gets me is the phone does not even feel hot when it says it is hot. I have even tried heat sinks like waterpacks. Also annoying on the new Gear VR because you dont have a cover so you have to tape it up like a zombie when you use it. On top of that, it did not seem to make a difference. Still over heat on the second short video.

I have the same issue but on the Samsung S7. It used to work perfectly and I'd be on it for ages but now I'll be on it for 20 mins if I'm lucky and it overheats sending a message stating that the phone is overheating and needs to cool down to improve performance. It seems like I have to watch VR videos inside a freezer in order for it to perform properly.

Very easily solution. Choose the game you want to play then go off line, airplane mode  and start playing. Same procedure every time you change the game.
