I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S7 SOLELY for the GearVR (I won't be using it as an actual phone). I also bought a SteelSeries Stratus XL controller.... While I'm not playing with my Oculus Rift CV1, I wanted the next best mobile solution.... The only thing I'm missing is a reliable way to be able to mirror the screen to a random TV or monitor, depending on where I'm presenting the GearVR. This will help me guide users through menus, see where they are, etc... It will make things easier.
Should I just pick up a Chromecast unit? I also want to pickup a 2.1 amp portable charger to make this the best, most complete mobile GearVR setup possible...
I cast to my chromecast or my Smart smart TV. I did this with my s5 but have not tried the s7 yet or my VR gear. I love it by the way. How's the controller? A bit pricey but I guess I will have to bite the bullet and purchase it since my ps4 controllers are not working at all with the games.
Thanks for writing... These forums seem so Dead lately. The controller is outstanding and built like a tank. I also live that it takes regular batteries.... I highly recommend it. It's actually recommended by Oculus as the controller to use with the GearVR - it says right on the website.
I haven't used Screencast on my Smart TV or bluray player yet... . I'm hoping the chromecast is a viable solution - I have seen others use it. It's so cheap, I'll probably grab one anyhow. Also, if there's a bit of delay on the TV I'm streaming to, I can deal with that, I just don't want it to lag the phone/vr performance on the phone itself... That would be bad.
