Gear VR Unboxing ,size comparison with DK 2, 1st impressions

Just got my Gear VR UK version with the official controller and made an unboxing video which seem all the rage these days. But to add a twist, I compared the controller with an Xbox 360 gamepad and the Gear VR next to the DK 2. Results put the Gear VR slightly smaller which is what you'd expect from a consumer device. The gamepad compared to the Xbox 360 controller is very small which might be a problem for those with larger hands. Anyway, feel free to check out the video although I've covered the basics in the post here for those who don't like watching these things.

First Impressions:

Image quality is much better than the DK2 by far although still a way from HD but much more acceptable. You can still see the pixels but somehow this is superseded by the overall quality and can be easily ignored.

There's also seemingly less blur when not focused on the center of the screen which is good.

The fact that there's an official looking menu system makes it leaps and bounds ahead of the DK2 which is obvious due to the DK 2 being a development kit.

No wires is simply a game changer being able to move in camera mode and walk around the house look at Computer, type go to toilet etc. is a great feature and means you never have to take the thing off if desired.

I can't seem to use the controller with the home interface but that might be me so will experiment more.

Overall coming from 100s of hours in the DK 2 I'm very impressed and can see that this is a good showcase for a consumer VR experience. The CV1 is going to be incredible if they can match or surpass the Gear VR quality.

Thanks Oculus.

System Specs: MSI NVIDIA RTX 4090 , i5 13700K CPU, 32GB DDR 4 RAM, Win 11 64 Bit OS.

Your controller seems to be a newer/different version than mine as it is black. Still you should be able to control also from Oculus home with the controller, atleast it works for me.
