Gear VR with PS4/PS3 controller

I've connected a PS4 controller via Bluetooth to my phone, but when I load up a game on the Gear VR, it says no Gamepad connected. Is there anything special I need to do to "connect" the controller to the VR?

Any and all help and recommendations are appreciated. Also if anyone has a good cheaper (<$30) gamepad that is tested to work with the Gear VR I would appreciate those suggestions as well!

AFAIK, it is straight forward to pair a Dualshock 4 to a Galaxy S7 but it isn't recognised as a controller by android. This is a known thing apparently.

I think if you root the phone, then you can use the Sixaxis app to get things working but I'm not rooted so I can't confirm. In the end I just shelled out for a Moga Power Pro as it just works with android well.

Thanks for the response, yeah I'm not going to root my phone either. That's a little more than I want to spend but thanks for the reply

Yeah, I was dubious about spending the coin for it especially as I've got DS4's already as part of my PS4 - but if they don't work they don't work 😐

However, I'd like to think that there will be more software coming out for Gear VR that takes advantage of gamepads in situations where the Gear's own touchpad doesn't offer enough inputs. And there are a load of good (non-VR) Android games in general that work best with gamepads also; as I never bought a Vita, it seemed like a nice compromise to get more out of mobile/portable gaming going forward 🙂
