Is Gear VR worth it?

Friends, I tried on a great vr last month in bestbuy and has since fell in love with it. But I am an iPhone user and just got my new iPhone, before I know about the gear vr. So I am obviously not anywhere near my phone upgrade time. I see some Galaxy s6 on eBay for 300 some bucks and was going to buy a s6 just for the gear vr and maybe use it as a second phone as well. Is it worth it? Or is there any good alternatives for iPhone? I'm just really bummed out that oculus didn't make one for iPhone, I order a Merge VR on Amazon. But am pretty sure it's not as good as oculus. So my question is... Is Gear VR worth it for me to get a galaxy s6?

If you love watching movies (2d or 3d) in a virtual cinema then I would guess that the cost of the phone alone would justify using it with the GearVR.

S6 is a pretty decent phone anyhow, but at the moment the GearVR software range is nowhere near that of the Oculus (and many games are rather expensive)

Yeah, it's worth it. However, keep in mind that (in most cases) you will need active cell service in order to get the firmware update needed for VR. So if you get a phone just to use on WiFi you will need to borrow a friends SIM card or go to a cell carrier store, in order to download the update.

I have an iPhone 6 64gb for daily use. I fell in love with ger VR too. Just bought an S6 Edge+ just for VR. I think it's worth it. My own private cinema, The Social alpha, my own private arcade... it's worth every penny for me 😄

I have a Verizon iPhone with a Verizon SIM card, so if I buy a g920v version. Seems best fit for my situation.

Thank you for your reply. What exactly do you mean by the gear vr software range is nowhere close to the oculus? I mean it's the same company right?

Word, I just got my merge vr for iPhone use, and it's terrible... Just the field of view and everything about it is just so cheaply made. Did you get your galaxy through a contract or did you buy it from eBay or something?

I bought it new

VR with iPhone 6 and cheap VR glasses suck, that's not VR, it's looking at VR 😄

Same company, different product. Gear VR works with apps specifically designed for Android and only works with specific Samsung phones, often making use of the freedom a wireless VR solution gives. The Rift makes use of PC software and for instance existing (big) games. Totally different story. Compared to what's available for PC the Gear VR offers almost nothing yet.

I completely agree with you, I feel like looking into something that holds a VR. It's not VR, i'm returning the merge and get the galaxy instead.
