Samsung Gear VR vs Oculus DK2/Rift

I got my Gear VR very recently and I'm completely sold to the idea now. I have used Google Cardboard replicas before but the experience was far below Gear VR. The only thing that disappointed me is the pixelation. For now, I can live with it but I was wondering if Oculus DK2 or the Rift is way better than this ? The Samsung Gear VR seems to have higher resolution. Is there anybody here who owns both of these amazing kits and can let us know if it's worth upgrading to DK2 in terms of quality of view (I know I can probably get much more content with DK2 and my usual PC games too, but I'm not asking based on the content).

I've been told the Gear VR is better than the current Rift... and that it has to be seen if the final version of the Rift will have a better resolution than the Gear VR. On the Gear VR you can actually read (smallish) text which you (so I was told) can't on the DK2.

If I were you I would wait for the final consumer version of the Rift!

I'm definitely not getting the Dev Kit, I was actually hoping if the DK2 is better, so would the Rift be. I'm also looking into Sony's Morpheus. If the quality is similar to Rift, atleast we can use our existing console for playing (if that's in their plan) instead of buying a $1000 PC. I just bought a $1250 notebook and I really doubt I'll investing so much atleast in next quarter.

I have both the GearVR and the DK2

Below are my opinions on the advantages and disadvantages of each

Video playback (3d, Virtual Cinema, Dome, etc)
Gear VR is definitely the winner here thanks to the quad hd screen. No issues with jitter due to less sophistication in comparison with fully complex rendered scenes.

Gaming
Without a doubt, the DK2 is the winner here. The ability to use the full power of the PC and GPU to generate the GFX in combination with the Positional tracking leaves GearVR trailing away.

Convenience
GearVR definitely. No wires. Plug in headset and away to go.

Software availability
Early times yet, however the Oculus DK2 has much more software available to it at the moment

Fragmentation

As the GearVR is aimed at phones which have the same chipset/GPU (S6, S6 Edge, Note 5), You will get consistant frame rates unlike the DK2 where you would need ideally a GTX 970 or above to get everything running at silky smooth 75fps.

Overall..

GearVR pro's
Silky smooth playback all the time due to unified hardware (2015 edition Samsung range)
QuadHD screen (1280x1440 per eye)
No wires and quick to set up

GearVR cons
Less software (Hopefully this will change)
Limited to cpu/gpu on phone.
No positional tracking

DK2 pro's
Far higher quality GFX due to using the power of the PC and GPU to generate the images
Positional tracking (difference is night and day)
Far more software available for it

DK2 Cons
If you don't have a decent GPU, the result will not be nice at all
Wires everywhere
Lower resolution screen (960x1080 per eye)

I assure you the picture on the Gear VR is better than the DK2. The phone you are using matters!

As for content, it will only get better and increase in volume.
Big PC, all the headsets, now using Quest 3

Not only that, but if taking into account image quality only, The Consumer version of the Oculus will probably not be any better than the GearVR either. (Will probably more than likely use a note4 or 5 screen)

I'm curious on the lenses being used on the rift consumer edition vs the gear vr. Anyone know if the lenses are better with a larger FOV with the new rift?

I know that the rift will have 2 separate screens that are adjustable. Can you also adjust the lenses back and forth so that the FOV is larger or is it only to separate the screens further apart?
