yes, I can do that now on the current version but wpm007 seems to be talking about a beta version with fixes for Plex support. So, if there is a special sign-up to get access to a beta version of an update, I would like to get in on that.
What would be cool is to have the Oculus Video App to see an option for DLNA Servers or have PLEX show up as a stream source in the left-hand menu in the lobby of Oculus Video and be able to watch a movie in the theater.
The latest version of the Samsung Internet app has dropped the beta part of the name. There is integration with the regular phone app so you can use your shortcuts from there.
One of the easiest ways is to use BubbleUPNP. Connect it to your plex server, when you go to play a movie it'll ask you where you want to play it. Then pick any of the VR apps on the play store that plays DLNA videos.
I use emby server, emby app for Android and MilkVRLauncher. Google MilkVRLauncher to find app. It takes some tinkering but it will load a link in milkvr. Click link and it will load videos directly from emby. Plex may work also. I use it because my s6 has very little memory. There is directions at site. Hope this helps https://www.reddit.com/r/GearVR/comments/3vuopp/simple_lan_stream_to_milkvr_own_app_simple_server/
Plex, the service that allows users to watch any of their content from anywhere with access to their network has now released the virtual reality (VR) version of the service, Plex VR, onto the Samsung Gear VR.
Ive played with the app. It is fine for the most part. Navigation could use some work, there was no quick way to jump to the top of the plex server libraries. Also the backdrops are kinda meh... the theatre totally lacks the ambient light reflection other movie players have and the penthouse apartment does not dim the lights when playing back. Still streaming videos from network drives doesn't get any easier. I am actually interested in seeing how the watch with friends plays out. My guess is it will never be finished but it might be cool if it does.
You can use Pigasus via dlna to get your Plex server working with the Gear. I have been able to sucesfully stream every title I have flawlessly (including 3D SBS). - https://www.oculus.com/experiences/gear-vr/1176652609059507/
Or you can use the official Plex VR app which works just as well. - https://www.oculus.com/experiences/gear-vr/1779825005402730/
