Saw a topic from a few months back addressing subtitles for Oculus Cinema (before the name change) that seemed to have gotten subtitles working for everybody, either officially or with a workaround. There was also an update that did claim that subtitles now worked.
Now, using the Note 5 and consumer Gear, I've been unable to get subtitles working with .mkv files. Are only certain filetypes working with subtitles so far? And does matroska even have full support? I wonder, as while I can play a few select .mkv files, others will only play audio.
So, I'd like to know what solutions other folks have, and whether I'm gonna have to convert the .mkv files to mp4 and hardcode the subtitles.
The single .mkv file that does manage to play on the system, does actually present subtitles when viewed in the VR Gallery. Strange that it's not the same in Oculus Video, but oh well.
The other files are still not playable, and I'm guessing that just has to do with the phone more than the Gear itself. Will continue experimenting to figure out what's the exact reason.
More experimentation reveals that there is no actual pattern to whether it's gonna work or not, apart from one detail. When viewing the files as icons in Windows, if they display an image from the file itself (a snapshot), then they'll work. if they just show the icon for one's video player (in my case, Media Player Classic), nada. This has no bearing on whether or not it actually plays on my computer.
