UPDATE OCT 29 -Islands In The Sky v2.0 Revision 1 -download!

Hello Gear VR Users.

Update October 29

This is probably our last revision before heading out to china on November 9... but i will try to post yest another version if possible before then... if there are any new noteworthy updates. In this version, we have a new "secret level" which is a rework of our maze level. just look around the main menu, and you will find it 🙂 Also, this version is already available free of charge for download at WWW.SIDELOADVR.COM - here is the link http://sideloadvr.com/detail.php?id=6

NOW THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT. If you like the game and appreciate what we are doing (and only if that is true... i do not want to be dishonest), please give us a good rating at sideloadvr after you download and test it. It is a little effort, but having that rating and feedback might be enough to get an investor to support our game.
Again thank you, and i hope you enjoy it.

Ok. so i have a new short video showing the new cockpit in action... yet, do not hold your breath... a new person has joined our volunteer team, and he has an extensive Game Studio background, and the cockpit and the maze structure are being reworked. so there will likely be one more cockpit update before we head to China 🙂

Anyways, to show a little of the progress (of both the cockpit and our mother ship), here goes the new video link

Keep in mind that we are still struggling on how to set up a proper video capture methodology... but rest assured, the game is running at over 50fps (to me it looks like 60, but that is just me) on a note 4... yet the video capture software we use records at far less fps and video resolution 😞 Anyways, enjoy.

Older Updates

I have added a youtube link to a video of the game, in case you want to check it out.

If anyone can explain how i embed a youtube video here, please pm me.. i have tried for 30 minutes with no luck.. so a link it is 🙂

Just wanted to let you all now that I recently Updated my game, Islands In The Sky V2.0, with revision 1. It is a major overhaul of the game. http://sideloadvr.com/detail.php?id=6

-All new menus and loading screens
-Option for normal/inverted Controllers (on bottom of main menu)
-COMM Link Terminal on cockpit to aid with mission objectives
-Mission 2 has been totally reworked
-maze is filled with new challenges
-avoid the laser beam traps
-destroy the asteroids
-more kamikaze pirates
-venture into the ice cave
-tractor beam puzzles
-unlockable doors
-remote drone puzzle
-avoid the moving mechanisms

An s6 is recommended, but it will also work on a note 4.

I please ask gearvr users to download the app through sideloadvr, test it and provide feedback. I am one month away of travelling to China to pitch the game concept to potential investors/publishers (that was the prize from the game jam I won - Archiact global Game Jam).. so any feedback is welcomed.

Hopefully in the next update I will have a 3d radar (depicting altitude location as well), and perhaps improved graphics (some talented help has come to aid my (well now our) project.

I just ran demos it at Siegecon, and at the local atlvr meetup, to great praise and feedback. Even an Oculus person did test it and though it was very promising (yet still not ready for Oculus store... but getting there).

Well, again here is the link, and thanks in advance.

Nice to see that you're still working on this! Would be good to have some screenshots as well and perhaps video just to get peoples attention. 😃

Thank you sir.

This week i already got the 3d radar working, and i was lucky enough to have a former senior programmer from Hi Rez Studios (yup, the one that made smite), to offer his help to polish my models. Hopefully within a month or 2, maybe my game might be able to be on the gear vr store.

It is a shame that i wont be able to have it ready for gearvr launch.. since i think the gearvr needs free flight experiences... but hopefully the wait wont be too long.

and if the chinese like it, or enough people like it as a demo, then I might even push on forward funding or no funding. we will see 🙂

Thanks again for the nice words 🙂

So i have been asked to show a little gameplay footage of my game. So here it is 🙂

Video is low quality and low on frame rate.. but on the note 4 its close to 60fps, and on the s6, it goes at 60fps with no drops or overheating.

Cool game. But...

In the tutorial misson where you have to drop the thing on the platform - i dropped the box right in front of the Buddha - and then its just gone. vanished. but the mission is not updated.

Also: are you sure about the "on the note 4 its close to 60fps"? Because every time a big ship is in sight it looks more like 30fps to me...

Hi,

Some feedback for you..

I had a play with this yesterday and it looks good. The problem for me is the age old one of feeling sick.

I went through the tutorial and had to stop as I was fixing the last of the broken areas because of nausea.

The main things I would suggest are:
- Have some kind of dampening on the up and down movement. The reaction to moving the controller felt too extreme and it was hard to move gently.
- I would include some kind of momentum as well I think. So, when I am moving and I stop thrusting, I still keep going in the direction/spin that I was before.

I am not sure if it would completely stop me feeling sick, of course. I have accepted that I am at the bad end for motion sickness !! ..

Good game though and I will try it a bit more and see if I can get further.

Cheers

Hello again everybody. sorry for the delay in responding. i have been busy updating the game with a new cockpit, the 3d radar.. and getting ready for my trip to China. Anyways.

as far as the note 4, i did some updates that perhaps help a little on the performance department. This update is still not available, but should be shortly, perhaps ill make a new distribution next week.. and also to gather opinions on the new cockpit concept. i will also check on the drop bug on the first mission.

As far as the controls, i am still debating what to do. i get some that suggest to increase speed... but that increases motion sickness. Then i get some that need it to slow down, or be dampen, to alleviate the sickness. I know that the easy answer is to say, you can;t please everyone.. but my solemn duty is to find a happy medium for everyone. So i will keep testing.

Something I have though the last few weeks are booster platforms... so that when you fly over them, you get a a temporary speed boost. That way, you can either take them, or go slowly. as far as the maneuvering controls, i am till tweaking to find that happy medium.

Luckily, i got a few volunteers that have started to help with my game. Hopefully, if the china trip pays off, then they will become paid volunteers 😛 regardless, these folks will fill the void of the skills i lack (which are many.. trust me.... doing this on your own sucks... having help make s huge difference).

Anyways, I hope to beta test the new cockpit today in a public place... and then get back to work.

thank you all for your support and interest.

Here is a pic of the new cockpit so far... of course in the age it does not look as pretty.. but am trying to keep it close
