I updated on Saturday and I've used the Gear VR a good amount since then. I'm happy to say I've seen no side effects of the update.
Same for me, tried a few apps and didnt really notice a difference. Besides they added some cool features and if anything ive noticed the phone in general runs faster and has improved battery life.
