I had been using the gear vr for a few weeks and just decided to try it back on. When I put my note 4 in, now it just bring up a black screen. It is trying to bring up something as when I take my phone out I see a little X in the bottom left corner.
I uninstalled and reinstalled occulus and restarted my phone multiple times. Is this a problem with the newest version of occulus or is this somehow a problem with the gear vr headset itself? It seems to recognize that it is being plugged in.
Bumping this up- just started having the same problem this week. Insert the Note 4, briefly see a blue screen (before I can even get my headset on) and then it goes black. I hear the "Beep" when I take the headset on and off but that's it. When I take the headset off, sometimes there's a small "x" in the corner of the screen.
This is on a Verizon Note 4. Oculus Home 1.1.0. GearVR Service 2.3.12. Android 5.0.1.
For me, it's the same problem. I got a software update this morning. Could it be related to this? Any help would be much appreciated, since I cannot use my Gear VR at all, at the moment.
By the way: Additionally to what was said above, I noticed, that I get the menu when I hold the back button for a few seconds. There I can turn on the camera view, but when I select "Oculus Home". I just go back to the black screen.
My hardware is: Unbranded Note 4, Oculus Home 1.1.0 (19024594), Android 5.1.1, Gear VR Service 2.3.13
Note 4 unlocked with vodaphone account U.K. and innovator gear VR. It looks like the new update had broken something for us. Putting the phone into the gear just gives a black screen. I can start an app using the oculus icon on my phone then put the phone into my gear and the app works. But going back to home just gives a black screen.....
Hate to be another "me too" post, but "me too". AT&T Note4, no SIM, but connected to wifi. Not rooted, not unlocked. Running Android 5.0.1
Worked perfectly before this. Not a connection issue, because if I hold down the back button long enough, I get the menu and can use the video-pass-through feature, but if I go back to Oculus Home, nothing but black screen. Reinstalled Oculus Home, and re-logged in, but no change.
Edit: It is clearly a display problem with Oculus home. I was able to blindly click on while in the all-black Oculus home and launch some apps that then worked just fine. But pretty hard to launch apps without being able to see them. Just pulled up a few at random that worked, but going back to Oculus home put me back in all-black screen.
Guess I'm glad to see I'm not alone, but this is frustrating.
Another "me too" - worked fine yesterday, phone said it had updated to 5.1.1 today, same symptoms. Have factory reset twice now, reinstalled all the oculus apps etc. It gives the right screens when I plug it in locked etc (telling me to remove and unlock), there's no connection problem as far as I can tell. Makes the connection sound, gives the beep reacting to the light sensor, still just black (notifications appear on top as usual). I see a little x in the corner when I disconnect it before it goes back to normal.
I bought this Note4 last month and the gear (innovator edition) about a week ago. Worked excellently until today. Pretty upsetting to sink ~AUD$700 on a new phone and goggles for a week of cool VR and then get darkness to be honest. 😞
