I have just started in the VR world with my purchase or a Samsung Galaxy S8+ and Gear VR. I was hopping that I could use the VR to watch movies I have purchased in the past on Amazon and Google through youtube. However, I tried the Oculus browser and I get and HTML5 not supported when I try to watch my purchased videos. I tried Samsung Internet browser and get the same issue. I tried Samsung phonecast and I get sound but no video. Looking for help here. Is there anyway to watch movies I purchased from Google or Amazon on my Samsung Gear VR?
There is but you won't like how it looks. You can use the online app in Gear VR. It really only gives you a small screen though. I've tried watching it in 360 and its nearly impossible.
There is a second way by installing play cardboard. This temporary disables the gear vr ability and then you can use the gear vr as normal cardboard with apps and games (and YouTube). You will see drift issues as you cannot use the built-in sensors but perhaps you can use daydream apps (my galaxy S7 doesn't support daydream).
I am not sure if there are cardboard apps that give you the wanted functionality but there are more cardboard apps then gear vr apps.
