?? Would... a google cardboard be good enough??

Ok. So, I know that the note 4 plugs into the gear vr, but from what I've seen in videos and such, it's more or less just for the button on the side right? The note 4 has the sensors built in right? So would developing something for google cardboard work the same as developing for the gear vr?

(I ask cause I don't have $200 extra for the gear vr, and I personally don't see much difference between a cardboard and a gear vr beside the button being a tactile button.)

there isn't really a noticeable difference between the DK2 and the Gear VR according to 2 developers. There is this video/podcast where it is focused on Gear VR, and the two devs talk about it. They are the developers of Vanguard V/Proton Pulse, and Dreadhalls. They mentioned about the Cardboard, Gear VR. Is a little long but a fun watch

what i found was the 3 cardboard versions were almost identical in performance except for the glue or velcro holding it together. the Mi3d could not be disasembled though as it had gluestrips rather than velcro pads holding it together so it could not be unfolded and stored in the bag again without damage. be care full as the velcro tabs is stronger than the cardboard and would come off the cardboard very easily. the main problem being the fixed lenses.that would not stay in place. they would give you a fish eye view of the cellphone screen showing a dot in the middle rather than a rectangular view.
the cardboard plastic was much nicer even at 3 times the price. the lenses are mounted in a notched sliding slot so the spacing between the eyes could be easily adjusted and the mount was adjustable both in width and length to accommodate many phone types. the plastic did not have the washer and magnet to work the phons magnatometer as a switch but thats easily added. on all of them I disliked the focal length of the lenses though. they would all just show me a round fish eyed circle in the middle of the screen rather than a rectangular screen so i could see all the field.

i got the RIFT SDK2 in mid november and it has the same problem. the lenses are like cups extending way out so its like watching a TV through a pair or upturned tumbler glasses with the base against my eyes. the head mount case is to narrow to allow me to wear my glasses and adjusting the focal length i could not get both sides in focus.

now in regards to the samsung gear VR. from what research i have done its mainly a head mount case like the cardboard but with a built in touchpad mouse to act as a button and pointer. if it does include head tracking as in angle traking and an accelerometer for movement that would make it worth the $200. oculas is also selling it with a bluetooth game controller for $250 but i dont think its worth the extra $50. i'd rather buy a better controller that fits my needs rather than the one i saw displayed. it depends on what features the controller includes though.

I am very disappointed in the Galaxy note 4 phone however as it does not have the HDMI port i was told it would have when i ordered it. it also locks up a lot as the UI drivers crash frequently if you give it commands too quickly. i have to pull the battery sometimes 3 or 4 times a day to reset the phone after it locks up. i'll be buying the gear VR mainly to see if it has any worthwhile features. if not i'll just keep using the cardboard plastic and resell the Gear after i do a review.

A phone with a HDMI port? Never saw one, but you can use a micro usb to HDMi or MHL adapter of course.
My Note 4 never locked up or crashed, do you have the latest updates installed, as there were 2 stability updates already? And btw you never need to pull out the battery, you can make a soft reset of the phone by pressing the power button for around 14 seconds.

What HDMI? Who said it was including an HDMI? Im pretty sure it is common knowledge the Note 4 doesn't sports any HDMI connectivity. :?:

I'm not sure why are you dealing with taking the battery off the phone, sounds strange.

The note 4 supports hdmi through an MHL Adapter, like the other guys said. You do have to get the special 11-pin usb connector for samsung phones to work with MHL.

If your phone is locking up on even a monthly basis, you phone is a bum phone. Take it back to where you got it and see if you can get it replaced. Don't know if you can get it replaced since it's been over a month though.

Was the Phone second hand? Was the Phone rooted also?
