Thanks for providing feedback on METAL VR PINBALL, the best game ever made.
I have been working on this by myself for over a year now and am ready to receive early market signal from fellow VR developers.
METAL VR PINBALL $1.99 is available now on Oculus Go and Gear VR.

I am open to all feedback as the game is live in the Oculus store.
My current goal is to optimize cpu usage to allow more animated lights, haze and fx.  Future add: multiplayer.

To receive a free game code:
Either email your email address linked to your Oculus account to stevehinan@gmail.com or provide your info in a comment below.
I will add you to the RC channel for METAL VR PINBALL and you will receive a confirmation email from Oculus to join the RC channel.

Thanks again.  I look forward to your feedback.

Hi Steve,

Apologies for the delay. I've just had a short session in the game. I'm going to use the rubric Oculus provided to guide my feedback.

This is based on just initial impressions.

Usability - I'd give it a B. A few areas of improvement I'd suggest.

I like the personal welcome to the app. The quality of that is low, and as a first impression, maybe would be better on a 2d in world screen (like the tutorial).

The tutorial is quite nice in that again it is personal, and feels more unique because of it. I personally like it, but I would be mindful of it being a bit too casual, which can translate to being not as professional or polished as it could be.  A happy medium may be to keep the personal approach, but try to record it a little better with a decent mic, audio cleaned up, and maybe a bit more scripted.

Having played for a short session after viewing the tutorial, there are a couple of things that I am still unsure of, and could perhaps be included or mentioned in the tutorial:-

1.  The headbang counter is unclear to me. This is counting me headbanging, but what are they used for? Is it just a measure of how much you get into the role, or can the headbands be used in the game play somehow?

2. Level progression. I went through a few different variations of the stage setting. When I exited to Home to look at other stuff, then chose play again, I started at the first environment again. It would be nice if the tutorial covers how level progression works.

Originality - It's a great original idea, and I like the fundamental game play. So far as this is my initial impression, there hasn't been much variation in play, aside from the change in venue. I am unaware right now if power ups, or other variations other than lighting up the band elements and multi ball.

For this reason, so far I'd mark it a B. I'd like to see more variation in gameplay in order to rank it higher.

Length of experience. - Too early to tell really. I need to play it a bit more to work out what I would rate this category.

Name, Assets and Description. - I'd rank this a B. The description is great, but the logo/cover art could look a bit better. Also, the trailer could be improved a bit by touching on what the game offers in the trailer, rather than just being a video of the game play.

Hope this helps,

Please give me feedback on my feedback, so I can focus my attention on specific stuff that you would like an opinion on.

Many thanks

Thank you @mallmagician

Your valuable feedback gives me the opportunity to focus on what I should update next.
I will upgrade METAL VR PINBALL to address each of your posted critiques.

Headbanging: I'm still thinking of how best to tutorial this topic.  Headbanging is for natural enjoyment only and has no 'gameplay' impact other than incrementing the leaderboard statistic, as I feel purist about not cheapening the act of headbanging.
I've found the leaderboard is a great replayability driver and I'm curious if the more you play, the more you care about your leaderboard position.   I'm still thinking of how best to tutorial this topic also as the leaderboard can be a source of confusion.  The leaderboard design is inspired from the tour dates printed on the backs of concert tshirts.

My goal is to add multiplayer, any tips on Unity - Go/Quest multiplayer implementation would be awesome!

Thank you again for taking the time to provide feedback, I welcome any and all future feedback from you.

Cheers,
Steve

Hi Steve

Thanks for the review on Kevs Compulsion. Much appreciated. 🙂 As you can see, I'm a bit a noob developer, so unfortunately don't have any experience implementing multi-player in Unity. So I can't offer much in the form of tips there.

Yeah, I like the leader board, and the design idea of it being like a tour t-shirt did pass me by on first play. I did enjoy the fact it recognized where I was playing from. And, yes, I think it's likely that the leader board would drive more replays. One thing I'd like to see, is the ability to scroll the leader board. It also may be cool to throw a couple of stats at the player after a session playing. E. G. You are currently the fifth highest of players in Denmark, and the best in your city!
Perhaps to make the tour tshirt idea a bit more evident, you could actually have like a brick wall, and instead have the leader board appear as a tour poster on the wall. Or even a framed tour tshirt. Just an idea.

Ill be trying to get some more play time in at the weekend. Let me know if there is anything specific you want me to concebtrate on.

Cheers

Phil

Thanks @mallmagician
Special thanks for your excellent game review! "Headbanging and pinball made a baby!" is a great marketing hit!
I like your thinking on the leaderboard and stats.
When you find a moment of play that makes you decide to stop playing, please identify what caused that feeling.

Cheers,
Steve
