Just heard Kim Commando say tonight on the radio the new oculus will cost 1,000.00. Is this true?

Nope. The Oculus Rift headset might be around $350. But you'll also need a Windows PC in addition to the headset. A new Windows PC that is of the recommended specs will cost around $1000.

Brendan Iribe, are you seeing this? Damage control, please.
Not a Rift fanboi. Not a Vive fanboi. I'm a VR fanboi. Get it straight.

I wouldn't call these guys trolls. I'm interpreting all this as new users who are interested in VR who want to get in via Oculus.

If anything, all this confusion shows that regular people expect an all-in-one solution for VR. Oculus might not be able to provide that experience. Sony and Valve probably can.

Meh- its no different with software that been around ... like forever?

The device it self cost money and the device it takes to run it cost money. If you fail to understand how that works - then you need to walk away if you ask me 🙂 Trolls aside - it's common sense really.

Sony and Valve are no different. You need their device/computer to run their "all-in-one" solution. Vive requirements will be no different than Oculus requirements either, but will cost more over all because they are selling it at a higher cost. Sony will require that you have a PS4 or better.

With that said - then yea - questions like these are trolls because they didn't even look up/do any research before posting. Enough said.

Thanks, good to hear. I wasnt trying to troll, i was about to order dk2, thinking the new rift would be sold out and couldnt find any pre order info. She said it was only the rift headset not the added computer cost so i came here to find out for sure.

Valve will probably sell a complete system as a bundle containing the Vive and a Steam Machine. Sony will probably sell a complete system as a bundle containing a PS4 and Morpheus. Oculus has not mentioned or hinted anything at all about selling a complete system with the Rift bundled with a pre-configured Windows PC.

Kim Commando is pretty much the go-to radio show for folks who aren't tech gurus but want to stay up to date with a layman's bite sized reporting of technology. It's Facebook mom tech reporting, the exact audience Oculus is trying to reach. She's been around for years and she has a huge following. If she said this, she should be contacted by Oculus immediately for a retraction.
