1080 fallacy...

Have to say, coming from a 970 to a 1080.... save your money.  The difference is s minimal, it really isn't worth the cost.  Real world, the upgrade is so minimalI would save our money.

If you are on a 980 or a 980ti forget about it for now, just not an appreciable difference..  Even playing Doom on Ultra settings at 4k... meh

No, seriously. I went from 980s to 1080s and there is a noticeable difference. For example, I can max out Chronos now with a 1080 but on the 980 I had to leave everyone on default. A big difference. I played Quantum Break (one of the most demanding games out there) at 1440P and it looked great and with smooth framerates (on 980 I could only do 1080p). Also, not sure how you can say DOOM at 4K is meh... clearly you're trolling.

Think what you will, I just don't see anything that makes me think that it is worth spending the thick end of £600 on a  card on this upgrade.

I spent a lot of time trying to set this card up (see my 1080 drivers issue post).  I really wanted it to be the a step up but it just isn't.  None of the games I play (and I have bought plenty) are any better visually.  if you have a 970 or better, stay with it.  There is absolutely no way that you will see a difference that is worth paying that sort of money.

If you want to future proof and have money to burn, go for it. If you want to see better VR...... don't

970 to 1080 is a significant upgrade.
46% memory throughput, 135% faster texel fill rate, 53% faster pixel rate.  That's significant for a 35W TDP upgrade.

980ti to 1080 is less significant.
The big advantage of the 1080 is energy efficiency and texels again.

But that's not including the benefits of Pascal over Maxwell cards when it comes to VR.  Multi-projection will give Pascal cards a significant performance boost, even over the moderate hardware benefits.

Right now the difference is good or fair, going from 970 or 980 cards.
If developers integrate the VR features of Pascal, it will be VERY significant.

Have you tried supersampling VR games? The difference is supposedly pretty damn good.

So, what you're saying then is you have no particularly demanding games.

Clearly it's garbage and your only reasonable option is to get rid of it and cut your losses.  I'll give you $100 for it.  And that's being generous.

I went from a 980sc to a palit 1080 and the difference to me is mind blowing. I'm happy whatever is said.

The level of aggression you're using to describe a fairly small amount of money to anyone making upper middle class (and above) salary isn't really having the impact you might have planned.

Right next to my Oculus Ready PC with a GTX 980 graphics card is a Windows XP machine, running a graphics card from the 1990's. I have the following games running on it:

1) Dungeon Keeper 1 & 2
2) WarCraft 2
3) Thief 1 & 2

If I look at those graphics and compare to anything, both VR and traditional gaming, on my $2,000 gaming rig... I could easily argue that the difference isn't worth the price increase. If I show WarCraft to a non-gamer and then show them Chronos or Eve, they will just say, "yeah one game looks a bit better than the other." Is it $2,000's worth better? Purely subjective; based solely on the level of gaming enthusiasm.

I also have my Atari 2600... and if I put it up against my PS3, sure I can see a noticeable difference. Is the difference worth decades of console war debate on forums? Not really lol

If the 1080 isn't worth it for your yearly salary then great; but you may wanna take a step back and stop acting as though you discovered some great secret.

er, what level of aggression are you talking about???

AllI I am saying, is that in my opinion (which I believe I am entitled to) is that the VISIBLE difference, between a 970 and a 1080 is negligible. I can afford to upgrade card to card but for some people they might be paying a big amount of their disposable income on this.  My personal opinion is that if you are on a 970 or better, you should just hang fire on it.  You won't have your skirt blown up by the difference.  I truly wanted to see big gains but they are not there.

Anyone telling you differently is blowing smoke up your arse.  I am not talking about figures, just what it looks like moving from 970 to 1080.
