3D sbs mkv from laptop ext hdd to Quest 3

Hi, I tested xreal air2, picture perfect but I can't watch 3D sbs mkv movies only if I copy the movie to the Beam memory, that's why I returned it. I want to buy Quest 3 just to watch Netflix and just to watch 3D sbs mkv movies from the Laptop memory or from an external Hdd, I want to use a Laptop with an nvidia 3050 video card that is not compatible with the Quest app, I specify because I don't want to play, I want to watch 3D mkv movies with the help of Bigscreen or Virtual Desktop. Is it possible? Has anyone tried? Only for movies is the laptop with Quest 3 ok?

Hi @BoogeymanTm can I ask why you want to play from the laptop?

Unlike the xreal, the Quest 3 has storage. My 3D SBS mkv movies are larger files than my 2D ones, but not by too much, typically 12 to 15 GB, so even with a 128GB Quest 3, that's maybe 8-10 movies stored, if that's all you're going to use it for. With the 512GB, obviously that's up to maybe 40 movies. Then you just need one device powered on during use, with a few advantages like no tether unless you want to charge up. Well, I have about a thousand movies but only 10 3D ones, maybe you have more. I use a NAS to stream to all of my home devices... TVs, PC and Quests.

Anyway, if you don't want to store movies on the Quest, you can read the movies from a laptop or PC, the GPU doesn't matter for this use, jut set up the laptop as a media server so it acts like a NAS. There are a lot of tutorials out there that explain how to do this but it's pretty simple. Then you don't need to tether your Quest to it and you can stream to your TV too... if you have a 3D TV capable of streaming. This also means that you're not using up the Quest's storage and can download plenty of VR games/apps, you might enjoy some of those.

13700K, RTX 4070 Ti, Asus ROG Strix Z790-A Gaming, Corsair H150i Capellix, 64GB Corsair Vengence DDR5, Corsair 5000D Airflow, 4TB Samsung 870 , 2TB Samsung 990 Pro x 2, DK2, CV1, Rift-S, Quest, 2, 3, Pro, Windows 11 Pro 24H2 (10.0.26100)

Skybox VR supports Airscreen. That's where you run a server app on a PC and it streams videos from the PC to a Quest for viewing. It's not like Virtual Desktop or Airlink, the PC doesn't need to do VR, it's just hosting the movie files.
