4 weeks in....

OK its been roughly 4 weeks since I bought a second hand CV1 so I thought I would post this.
I am an old dude (50) but the Rift has definately changed the way I use my PC and although it sounds melodramatic, it has even changed the way I live LOL (i.e. I have turned my bedroom in to a full scale room scale setup ).
Since buying it I have also added a new sensor (for the roomscale) and other little bits and pieces (foam cover etc) and I think the next big purchase for it will be some frames and prescription lenses (Lens Labs).
I am an avid sim racer and I dont think I will ever be going back to using monitors for racing.
This is a list of software/games I use/enjoy the most (again, bear in mind I am old and slow and still experimenting in the world of VR).

1. Assetto Corsa.
2. Oculus Tray Tool.
3. Virtual Desktop.
4. Medium.
5. Pinball FX2 VR.
6. NoLimits2.
7. Drop Dead.
8. Gunjack.
9. Tilt Brush.
10. Plane9.
11. Magic Table Chess.
12 SteamVR.

There are others I enjoy (Firma, Space Pirate Trainer, Eve Valkyrie, LyraVR, etc etc) and there are more that I am looking forward to (Fallout VR, Project Cars 2 in particular) but I just wanted to post how much I am enjoying the whole experience so far.
Kind Regards.

I keep on meaning to buy some of those but haven't got around to it yet. Who on earth WOULDN'T want the voices of the best Dr Who of the lot, Blake, Avon and Brian Blessed in their game..? Very cool. Might have to treat myself around Christmas I reckon. 😄

If I had Brian Blessed yelling at me I would keep doing things wrong just to hear what came out of his mouth next.

Especially if he was playing as Voltan.

Definitely try Star Trek: Bridge Crew. It's essentially a Bridge Commander remake in VR with full touch support and optional co-op play. Elite: Dangerous was already mentioned but worth mentioning again: this game is amazing. Not sure about touch support though, they have HOTAS/gamepad as main input last time I Played it but things might've changed since.

I also urge you to try Robo Recall and of course Lone Echo, if you haven't tried those yet. You might not normally be into those genres but trust me, those two games are absolutely amazing.

The Galaxy map is a bit crap in VR (especially if you're trying to never take the headset off), but take a look at Voice Attack and the Voicepacks for same as it gives you speech to text AND a v cool AI.

I currently have Avon from Blake 7 as my AI and it's friken cool (he's called Minus). going to get the Tom Baker one for my birthday I think. then you can just ask them to find things for you on the map

Excellent idea!....I bought VA years ago with a voice pack for ED...looking through my hard drives I have just found them...the voicepack was Astra and I seem to remember paying a little extra to have her use my real name...I'm going to install them today to see if they still work....if not then I might treat myself to a Holly 🙂
Regards.

i use astra, she is really awesome and sounds sarcastic at times. I also have her real voice pack now and this can programme her to say anything i like(after a few voice attack tut videos).

An amigo and me have been swapping custom voices, it is really awesome stuff in vr

+1 for Brian hahaha he is one of my fav ever Brits

If you are contemplating flight sims then you definitely should consider IL2.  It is absolutely incredible in VR.  For my money, it is far and away better than DCS.

I agree IL-2 is absolutely awesome, especially in VR!
IMHO DCS is really good also, I have had both for years and enjoy both for what they bring. DCS is more hard core with clickable pits, much more to learn on each airplane. IL-2 is a little more relaxed, and I find it easier to just climb into a plane and have some great combat. IL-2 is strictly WWII scenarios currently whereas DCS covers a much larger base for fighter/bomber operations.

For combat flight sims, both of these are really must haves for me.

Thanks for the great advice folks 🙂
Which VR compatible flightsim (combat or civilian) would you say gave the best singleplayer experience?
Thanks 🙂

if you are into civilian things then Xplane 11 can not be beaten as of this thread, it has much support with addons, planes, real world mapping scenery beyond its base game.

However it has no current full VR support and needs Flyinside to work. This though works perfectly for me and the very awesome admin of Flyinside is also here @Techy111 to help you with anything you may need.

There are other civvy flight sims coming though but others are better qualified to talk of them.

i recommend for single player ease though

xplane11 + flyinside (jump into a Cessna and go)

il-2

elite dangerous

DCS World

Am I the only perve one thinking about @vannagirl dressed in a pilot's outfit..? 😛

With your photographs of Kitty Hawk
And the biplanes on your wall
You were always Amy Johnson
From the time that you were small.
No schoolroom kept you grounded
While your thoughts could get away
You were taking off in Tiger Moths
Your wings against the brush-strokes of the day
Are you there?

On the tarmac with the winter in your hair
By the empty hangar doors you stop and stare
Leave the oil-drums behind you, they won't care
Oh, are you there?

Oh, you wrapped me up in a leather coat
And you took me for a ride
We were drifting with the tail-wind
When the runway came in sight
The clouds came up to gather us
And the cockpit turned to white
When I looked the sky was empty
I suppose you never saw the landing-lights
Are you there?

In your jacket with the grease-stain and the tear
Caught up in the slipstream of dare
The compass roads will guide you anywhere,
Oh, are you there?

The sun comes up on Icarus as the night-birds sail away
And lights the maps and diagrams
That Leonardo makes
You can see Faith, Hope and Charity
As they bank above the fields
You can join the flying circus
You can touch the morning air against your wheels

Are you there?
Do you have a thought for me that you can share?
Oh I never thought you'd take me unawares
Just call me if you ever need repairs
Oh, are you there?
