Although you will surely get 600 dollars out of me and the other early tech adopters, that price point is truly short sighted.
The general public is not going to want to buy a CV1 at that price -- and they are where the real money is at. You will grab an extra few million dollars profit out of the hardware while losing hundreds of millions in software sales.
That is where the people that have spent their time and effort making programs for the rift expect to make their money. You just cut their user base down significantly. That kind of pisses me off.
Oculus, you all but just handed the VR race to the Vive'. That just blows my mind.
The bad press you are about to receive is frightening to contemplate. It will definitely hurt if not outright destroy Oculus's reputation. It may even put a damper the whole VR revolution.

Sure, but that $280 difference in the ballpark figure is like 30% of the cost of the Rift... How many fewer complaints would there be if the ballpark had been a little more accurate!

This is shock for me.. really. I expected 450-500.. but 600 is too much. Can we expect for low-price bundle? Just Rift + Tracking camera. I don't need Xbox controller, built-in headphones, Luckey's tale..
When the Oculus team got 2 billion they may have lost the sense of ..where the world is today economically speaking. US is in a recession ..the govnt lies to cover it up but everyone complaining about $600.00 shows we are in one world wide recession which is only going to get worse this year. Oculus employees are eating $600.00 breakfasts so they may be a little out of touch with economics.
the price increase and trashy cardboard box were tests to see if we would pay.. we did.. so now they raise the price more.. and we'll pay that too.. **** i hate resale.. it's something lie 50cents for the hardware cost difference for apple products memory capacity.. but they charge 200dollars extra for 32gb vs 16gb and so on..
wow oculus.. this is a 200 or less item but you prove you are truly into marketing the item instead of sharing the item with the world.. hope you have a great and stressful life until you learn to stop over inflating. i'll see you in a few years when i can get a used version of this $200 or less item on ebay for the price is should be.. **** you people i wish there was good god to set you on a path to help people instead of help yourself.
I've been really excited about this for a long time. But I was very disappointed this morning with the price. With shipping its well over $1000 to Canada. I've already sunk almost 2 grand into building a new pc. Would have been really nice if they were more accurate with their bs ballpark price.
