7 reasons I had to cancel my Rift order just now

LeeU

Email I just sent Oculus:

1) Today is 122 days since I pre ordered, still no shipping date
2) You started pre orders 20 minutes early, I ordered in first 4 minutes of released pre order date and time so I lost out
3) No date or price for Touch
4) You delayed shipping because of parts you guys claim
5) You are shipping bundles with PC's before pre orders
6) Read on your own web site that people who ordered their Rift 3 hrs after me are getting theirs today
7) Read today you will be selling retail Rifts this week, see No 1 and 2

So either step up to the plate and compensate me more than just shipping or cancel my order and lose a repeat customer for ever.

Plus, Since I have trust issues with Oculus now, I'm afraid that if I do order a Rift you will just gouge me a ridiculous amount for the Touch because with out Touch Rift is incomplete and mostly useless so I would be at your mercy.

1) But only 31 days since it should have shipped.
2) I was a 3-4m order, I have my Rift. There's some funkiness about regional shipping going on. What country do you live in?
3, 4) and?
5) Oculus probably made all these agreements before the pre-order process
even started. They can't just break their agreements with other
multimillion dollar companies, it just flat out doesn't work that way.

No
matter how much we want to whine about it, fulfilling company to
company obligations is more important than company to customer, because
the other company actually needs your product, or it'll put all of their deadlines behind. Customers just want your product, and the world won't end if we wait a month.
6) Read 2.
7) Read 5. I doubt these are Oculus direct sales, and if they are, the site you're referencing clearing says there will be shipping delays. Meaning, it's quite possible they won't get there's for a while.

Hated to do it but enough sand kicked in my face. I have supported Oculus from the start, well not the Kickstarter.

That is indeed a shame, as I'm in Texas. Although since the U.S. was a bluk of the preorders I wonder if we're broken up into different regions as well.

Honestly though chances are your Rift is/was about to be shipped, based on everything I've seen poking up around here. If you're going the Vive route now you might find yourself waiting for even longer. 😕

There's your problem right there.
USA has got a boatload more orders than EU or Asia has. Regardless of how many minutes in you ordered there were tons of people in front of you.

While my IP packets were traversing the atlantic and trying to get a response from a flooded webserver your countrymen were firing off orders as if it was going out of style.

Ha, misspelled my town, said today May 2nd till the 12th of May for shipping on mine. Just got wore down, don't trust them on when and price of the Touch, they could stick it to us.

I wouldn't expect the touch to be cheap to be honest, from what I've seen it's a lot cooler than the Vive wands.

But yeah, if you're a May 2-12ther, if it goes anything remotely like it did for me (I was an mid April) you might see it ship in a few days. But I have heard of people's estimates going over. Of course, on the flip side I've seen estimates ship weeks early, so who knows? 🙂

Just got this from Oculus, at least they are trying, just not sure what to do.

Hey Lee,

Your estimated shipping date is set for May 02, 2016 - May 12, 2016 and I mentioned this previously. Touch is not released yet and when it's closer to release there will be more information available however I can say that it is actually fantastic. The bundles have a completely different allocation of product.

I'm very aware of the situation especially being in support and I'm taking care of many many people due to the issues that have occurred from decisions other people made. I know you're frustrated, you're not alone and I also have not received my Pre-Order yet and I work here.

There is no compensation I can provide you at this time except the free shipping you were promised. If you want to cancel because I cannot compensate your more than the free shipping let me know and I'd be happy to cancel the order on your behalf.

You're located in the U.S. which means you may have access to the limited supply for the retail allocation. If you purchase a Rift at a retailer such as Best Buy then as per our blog you can let me know before the order ships and I can cancel the order after you obtain a Rift.

We will give you the same spot in line for Touch pre-orders and we will make sure you get the EVE Valkyrie codes. If you do this you'll need to secure a device before the order ships and wait for me to cancel afterwards so we can apply all the necessary things to the account.

Let me know what you decide and I will take it from here. Have a great day, take care!

Thanks,

Oculus Support

Yes, the current situation with Touch being an unknown factor is not helping.
They could stick it to us indeed, but do they really need that on top of the messy launch media attention?

I think they may choose to tread lightly here.
