Just got this in my email. I'd normally advise people to wait until the 11s are released in a few months but this is quite a bargain:

Well that is definitely more reasonable - I am going to still wait for the 11 series to upgrade though. Probably around x-mas time.

It's a more reasonable price, that's only $20-30 more than what it "should" be selling for. The rumor mill is suggesting the GTX 1100 series will not be substantially faster than the current 1000 series. The 1180 is looking an awful lot like a 1080 ti going by leaked specs. The price isn't even going down, with a $700 MSRP (leaked) for the 1180 vs the $700 MSRP for the GTX 1080 TI, I'm not entirely sure what the point is. But the leaks could be wrong of course.

So I have a 980 that's being put to the test with each VR Title I own.

I want to upgrade but not sure if I should do it now, or wait a bit for some of the upcoming releases. Price isn't really an issue, I just don't want to throw my money away on something that isn't giving me the best bang-for-buck.

Any tips?

Best to wait a few months I think. We don't know how powerful the 11s are going to be but if they're not that much more powerful than the 10s you'll be able to buy a 10 for a decent price.

Yeah, waiting is best in this case I think. The one thing the 1100's seem to have going for them based on leaks is power efficiency. That doesn't count for much among gamers but it makes or breaks mining rigs. We may start seeing a fair number of 1080 TI's on ebay in a couple months as miners migrate towards the higher power efficiency 1100 series cards.

Nice 1080ti on Amazon for the americans.

$770 (+$20 mail in rebate) at time of posting... For those who visit the states often and can get it delivered that is about £570 in real money 😉 (tax on top of course)

edit now oos 😞

Assuming we believe the leaked specs of the 1180 (which given the source I would say is a stretch) we are looking at a stock 1180 being about 20% faster than stock 1080ti.... But using power more like a 1080. A nice but not earth shattering bump.

Of course that source could be utter rubbish but even a rough prediction could mean the above is not far off the money

Depending on how well the over clock will depend how much better than the 1080ti they are imo

Wow, you must be rich if you call this 'cheap'! Of course, with the mining lurg etc, it isn't as expensive as others are or were - but still, it's not small change.

I was very reluctant to shell out £300 on a card a few years back (an XT1950XTX) - and that's the most I ever have, and I've never been disappointed with my cards' performances down the years.

it is all relative tho isnt it?

A brand new Ferrari at £50,000 would be crazily cheap... I still could not afford it however 😉

I have a few friends who invest in bitcoin and obviously i do not want to see them lose money... . but the sooner the mining using gpus implodes the better imo.......
Not only is it forcing the cost of the average punter buying a single card for their own use, with some people buying 50-100 cards in bulk in 1 go, it is also a massive waste of electricity.

I am no tree hugger and indeed my hobbies are far from green.... but just running computers 24/7 bitcoin mining just does not compute with me
