A Global Virtual Meeting about Virtual Reality?

Just an idea, so don't shoot me down!

Background:
I was thinking about setting up a meetup in Melbourne, Australia so VR enthusiasts and developers can participate, share ideas and co-ordinate efforts, and a forum member suggested setting up a global meeting instead?
I think a virtual meetup and a local meetup would both be good have have their own merits, so perhaps I should try and assist with both.

So...
Idea: Lets setup a Global Virtual Meeting for Virtual Reality.

Question.. How can we do something like this?
Ideas?
Suggestions?

I'm sure in the future, it would be easy to have a virtual reality meetup about virtual reality but we are still a bit far from the matrix like VR required for this ( am i dreaming? )

Perhaps someone is working on this idea already ( perhaps a VR demo? ) if so, please let me know, I'll love to participate.

The Virtual Cinema & Conference Room project is currently in hiatus.

I am looking for some help getting a side project started that would handle this kind of thing fine.

The words are 'started'.
Not much to it but bits and pieces of code and tests with rigging, morphs etc.

Oculus having a VR version of each upcoming conference would be nice. Imagine watching a live Luckey + Abrash + Carmack + *insertgeniushere* conference and feeling like you're there. This could be done with a dedicated application allowing limited head movement (unless they can implement something like a real time Google Earth-like camera system allowing 360º 3D video).

This could really show VR's potential for non-gaming applications to the general media.

I was just about finished writing this very interesting idea I had about creating and MMO world when this simple sentence came to mind

- "How about just using Minecrift?"
