One month since release but i have not heard much yet.Has anyone used the new AMD cards? How's the VR performance, happy with your buys? Are they actually possible to buy or is it another paper release?I'm getting tired of waiting for an RTX3080 and i hold no specific allegiance to either NVIDIA or AMD. I just want a new GPU since more than a year back - If these are equal in performance, while generating less heat and noise there is not much to think about.

New RX 6000 card arrived today, yawn... 😴
- but of course this makes it easier for more users to experience the glory of true VR - average performance in 22 different games with the 6600 XT can be seen here:

Thus a RTX 2070 in disguise with slightly less power consumption, price should be about $400, but these days... 😬 RTX 3060 12GB looks more interesting to me, if you can find one...

Well no, the only thing making it easier for more users to experience the glory of "true VR" is stand-alone headsets. Valve will be making their own Stand-Alone soon, so right now that market is represented by HTC and Oculus.
GPU's do not make it easier at all, since they are expensive and require PC-building knowledge. Something that is clearly not a trait for the masses. It's important to remember that both Mobile and Console gaming have been out-selling PC Gaming for many years.
Lastly, VR <> Video Games
VR is a platform based on establishing Presence, and extends far beyond video games.
