The Big One has arrived - 6900XT 16GB:

https://www.techpowerup.com/review/amd-radeon-rx-6900-xt/

In short:

Performance in 4K
Relative Performance 3840x2160
Thus basically about 2% faster than 3080, and 6-8 % slower than 3090. Beware that these results may not translate well to VR performance, where 6800XT did show slower trends - but we do not yet have VR results for 6900XT.

Power consumption is better than both 3080 and 3090:
Graphics Card only Power Draw Average

It's very quiet too - but this is AMD's reference design, other partners may use different cooling solutions, so take these noise results with a grain of salt:
Fan Noise Gaming

Very impressive results - although I'd have liked to see max 200w power consumption - even 300 watts are quite a lot. 2c.

One month since release but i have not heard much yet.
Has anyone used the new AMD cards? How's the VR performance, happy with your buys?
Are they actually possible to buy or is it another paper release?

I'm getting tired of waiting for an RTX3080 and i hold no specific allegiance to either NVIDIA or AMD. I just want a new GPU since more than a year back - If these are equal in performance, while generating less heat and noise there is not much to think about.

You might be overlooking an important issue, namely that Oculus may not yet fully support new gpus. So you're getting a new gpu and you're happy in pancake games, but find out you can no longer enjoy VR. Many have problems with Nvidia series 30 too, including the Index. One dude wanted to replace his 3080 with 1080 because Index went black using 3080 (Display Port did not work). I'd recommend to wait upgrading until cards are widely available and fully supported. 2c.

The ports on that card look a bit disappointing. It seems the 6x00 series only come in two styles:
- 1 HDMI, 3 DP
- 1 HDMI, 2 DP, 1 USB-C
I remember when AMD used to put 6 DP ports on a card, and actually support them all at once for hex monitor gaming.

Geforces are similar, although no 3000 series card has USB-C. But I've seen 1 3080 from Gigabyte and 1 3090 from Asus that have 2 HDMI and 3 DP.

New RX 6000 card arrived today, yawn... 😴

- but of course this makes it easier for more users to experience the glory of true VR - average performance in 22 different games with the 6600 XT can be seen here:

Thus a RTX 2070 in disguise with slightly less power consumption, price should be about $400, but these days... 😬 RTX 3060 12GB looks more interesting to me, if you can find one...

Well no, the only thing making it easier for more users to experience the glory of "true VR" is stand-alone headsets. Valve will be making their own Stand-Alone soon, so right now that market is represented by HTC and Oculus.

GPU's do not make it easier at all, since they are expensive and require PC-building knowledge. Something that is clearly not a trait for the masses. It's important to remember that both Mobile and Console gaming have been out-selling PC Gaming for many years.

Lastly, VR <> Video Games

VR is a platform based on establishing Presence, and extends far beyond video games.
