ASW simple idea for major improvement

Hello!

I am a vr player who plays on a relatively cheap but even though said to be bad by the community, the rtx 2050 performs very well in medium setting vr games both modern and old. Although this is not what this post will be talking about.

As stated in the title, this post will be regarding ASW!

What I’ve noticed is that ASW obviously produces artifacting/distortion in the form of black streaks in rapid movements. This combats low fps for low end systems but may not be the most user friendly for those looking for an immersive experience.

What I’ve noticed is that in dark conditions in vr games, since ASW produces black streaks, and those are almost impossible to see at low light, the vr footage appears very high FPS and appears smooth.

What I’m suggesting is that instead of having black streaks, you guys (meta) should add an option in the ODT (Oculus Debug Tool) to enable motion blur for ASW or blending for ASW.

Why would this be beneficial?

Well, if ASW is only non noticeable in low light conditions for vr, why not make it for all light conditions? By finding a way to implement blending of colors around the distorted edges, we can either pretty much remove or make ASW non noticeable.

I highly suggest you use ASW in low light vs bright conditions in vr to see more of what I’m taking about!

Let me know your thoughts!

What I mean by "Blending" is that the distorted edges will mix their colors with nearby colors or background colors behind the main object in which the distortion is appearing on.

Hey there, @Thatgoofyvrguy 👋

Thanks for providing your thoughts on ASW especially on lower/mid spec PCs. You're a star

I'd recommend dropping this as a suggestion across on the Ideas Forum to help get the most eyes on it 👀

Ah thanks dude, haven’t looked at these forums in a while but I’ll do so. Cheers!
