ATTN Mr. Carmack; RE: Quake 4

I jumped onto Quake 4 the day it released, and beat the game within a week. Then I experimented with the online play, and I personally think Quake 4 ran more like Quake 2, which was what I was hoping for. To get to the point... Can you please make this SDK 0.4 friendly for those of us who still own the game?

That would be... WONDERFUL 😄
But until then, I am perfectly content revisiting Quake 2, even though Quake 4 is much prettier 😉

Don't bet on it. ZeniMax owns all rights to the Quake series, and they're currently in litigation with Oculus VR and John Carmack.

Quake 4 was made by Raven, published by Activision... Where's John's involvement come in here?

The Quake 4 SDK has been released in 2006 and it's possible to MOD it supporting the Oculus Rift.

Would that cause any legal trouble? :?

Im sure the Doom 3 VR mod could be ported to Quake 4.

Looking at the Quake4 sdk... it does have a render system exposed, but it's very limited. It doesn't look like it gives enough access to add rift support.

While Quake 4 uses the Doom 3 engine (which is open sourced), it's most likely customised and there's no Quake 4 source release.

Imagine how disturbing the stroggification scene would be in vr! 🙂
