HI I use very often a game including VR support and the possibility to set the supersampling pixel density to 2 in game (DCS World). According to you, is it the best choice to use the pixel density to 2 setting in game and no supersampling in the oculus tray tool profile for DCS ? Or is it better to use the supersampling setting to 2 in the oculus Tray tool profile for DCS.exe and setting to 1 in the menu game ?
I personally if a game supports a PD setting use that rather than the SS setting in OTT. I fly DCS quite a lot, and for me prefer using the in game setting. However I would note DCS can be very demanding on a system and a PD of 2.0 is very ambitious. I myself run it at 1.3-1.5.
My computer has no problems with the supersampling set to 2. After, as all people, i search what is the best. And being afraid to not be objective enough, that's why i ask some experiences and some advices from others . Ok for you, using the in-game setting is better than using the OTT. I wait for some other advices too to make a global synthesis. Thanks for your return.
Thing is, that's all subjective. Depends on your hardware, what other software may be running, other settings in the game, what you're happy with, etc.
If you think the SS/PD from OTT vs the game itself will yield a different result ... no, it won't. The setting may have different values as there's no standard for this, and generally the game should override the setting from OTT anyway. The setting in OTT is mostly meant for those applications that don't have a setting of their own.
And yes, a pixel density of 2.0 would be very demanding .. that's 4 times the resolution. After about 1.3-1.5 there are diminishing returns in visual quality anyway, so there's really not much point going higher than that.
Whatever the hardware, you'll will always found that a solution is better than an other. A game could be more performant on a computer than on an other one but a game will always be more performant on the same computer with some settings that another ones. And i think that the best is given with the same settings on each hardware. But displaying the number of FPS is not enough. The image quality is important too and we must do a ratio: Lot of FPS with poor displaying or less FPS but better displaying. And surely a setting can be better than other and i say to myself that if a majority of people are saying that, in exemple, they found the in-game setting than the OTT setting, it's surely really the best. And that's why i wish to have several advices.
