Hi all,
I'm one of those people that preordered a Rift on
the first possible day January 6th this Year.
Therefore I am eligible to also preorder the touch
controller.
Fine!
But I don't see the point.
When I order directly here at Oculus I'll have to
pay 199$ and I assume that I will have to add shipment and tax to that also
and will possibly receive the controller when I
have luck and shipment goes well on December 6th like all other people around
the world.
But when I preorder for instance at Amazon
Germany, I'm sure that the cost is 199€ without additional fees.
And with Amazon I can be sure that I hold them
exactly on December 6th in my hands.
So why for God’s sake should I preorder directly
from Oculus?
What is my advantage that makes up the uncertainty of shipment and the tax and shipment cost?
Is there anything important I'm overseeing?
Greetings
Markus

Hi cybereality,
thanks for your quick response.
Glad to hear that I'm free to order wherever I
like.
Although that is not exactly the answer I was
waiting for.
When I preordered my Rift back in January, Oculus
spoke about the qualifying for being able to pre order the touch controller in
a way, that made me (and others) expect something special.
Kind of a reward for preordering the rift.
In the meantime I defended Oculus and the Rift several times when it
comes to reviews At Amazon. Said it’s a better product than the Vive. It’s the
original. Being really kind of a fan boy of the rift.
And now when it actually comes to preordering the touch controllers, you
say me there is nothing special and I’m free to order elsewhere.
I’m no native English speaker but I hope I was able to make my disappointment
clear.
First the very unprofessional handling of the Rift with months of delay
and now something similar with the touch controllers…
I think one could expect more sensitivity and
professionalism from such a big company like facebook.
What do you think?
Greetings
Markus

It all comes down to what Oculus said in order to give the illusion of an incentive to rush into buying the Rift.
What did they actually say.... versus what people assumed it actually meant.
I think clever marketing wording so that later Oculus can argue... we at Oculus honoured/ did what we said was at play...
Oculus is just one seller... if you rush into buying the Rift super early from them... then should you later purchase the Touch from them... then you will get prioritised in 'their' queue as a reward)
They just were not 'that' clear therefore as they did not mention that other stores/ retailers will get stock to sell on the same day..
As they were NOT that clear... The expectation/ meaning that many folk will have taken here... is that our reward would be to get the Touch before others who did not preorder the Rift....
Turns out this is not the case, and Oculus could have been clearer in saying, by the way... Oculus is only one seller and its only our queue/ stock that will get prioritised. Other Retailers will also get stock on the same day, so you people who did not preorder the Rift will be able to buy from them, and obtain the Touch perhaps sooner than those who in fact did preorder the rift.
For many therefore.. the illusion of the reward Oculus offered for enticing / misleading people into rushing into buying a Rift... comes as a disappointment when they later learn the 'reward' is nothing more than an illusion covered by clever marketing to push Rift sales early to compete with Vive at the time.
Anyone upset... don't be... as Oculus due to the clever wording can always say hey... we did what we said... not our fault most customers wil have assumed this meant something, and we cant be responsible for what you all 'thought' we meant.
I also rushed into buying the Rift, and honestly, the idea sold to me at the time that the Touch Priority queue thing as an added incentive while not the only reason I bought early, was 'part' of the reason I jumped sooner rather than later. I believed when the Touch came out, I would get it BEFORE folk who did not back the Rift while at preoder stage.
Now I ordered the Touch from Amazon, as I later saw no advantage in buying from Oculus.
I did have 'priority status' had I bought from Oculus... but as I say... I saw no advantage as I could get this same day from Amazon.
It does annoy me a little but, than someone else who did not preorder the Rift could also buy from Amazon the same day I did, and perhaps get one sooner than someone who ordered from Oculus direct.
I actually feel Oculus should fulfil all Touch orders of those who preordered the RIFT from them direct... BEFORE they give any stock out to the stores to sell.
If this meant I would now have to wait longer - I would accept this as I feel its fairer !
Perhaps they will have enough stock for all though... so it becomes a non issue.
Edit: I also got free next day shipping from Amazon (Im a Prime member)
