Congrats on finding one! I'm still trying to get my hands on the EVGA SC, myself.

Just tell her that's a birthday gift to yourself, to ease your midlife crisis. It's cheaper than a sports car, after all.

The EVGA 1080 SC and EVGA FTW aren't as good as the Gigabyte G1 Gaming or the MSi 1080 X. The Gigabyte G1 Gaming and MSi X are neck & neck, but I got the Gigabyte G1 Gaming for £37 less then the MSi card here in the UK.

Nvidia and Oculus have just cost my flexible friend over £1100 for the CV1 and Geforce 1080. I'll still be paying for this when the Geforce 2080 is released years from now.

I'm not sure what your definition of "as good as" is based on. The SC clock speed is identical to the MSI Gaming X's OC mode, and only 13 MHz lower than the G1 Gaming's OC mode. It's higher than the default (Gaming) mode for both cards. The EVGA cooler performs very well in all the reviews that I've looked at.

I'm sure they're all good cards, and I would certainly consider either the Gigabyte or the MSI if there was stock available now (I can't find anything other than FE cards that aren't back-ordered), but given the choice I'll go with EVGA due to good experience with their cards.

Tell her that she's too young to understand these things, but when you get into your 50's, there are things you just have to do (like buy expensive PC components).

@nalex66 - I base it on the benchmarks I've read about. The sites I've looked at has the EVGA FTW, which clocks higher than the EVGA SC, they have that card at about 10 FPS less then the Cards I've mentioned upto a resoloution of 1440p. That's what I saw but I can't be certain it's true. Can't see why they would lie though when they show the results.

Obviously don't mention to her you'll be doing it all over again in six months when the 1080 Ti releases.
