Hey guys, so back in the last few years I bought an gaming device called Online. It was very small, and looked nothing like a ps4 or xbox, but manage to play graphical processing games via internet streaming method. In hind sight it worked very well. The device came with a controller and when a button is pressed the games would execute on point. Well what if the Oculus rift incorporated this method in it's next update in order to play games. It wouldn't need big machines to run games, just internet, no extra cables would be needed, just the device.
It adds too much latency, in other words it would make almost everyone throw up since when you move your head the image will lag behind. Not even ASW can take care of that.
The high demands on computer power are there for a reason, essentially for high framerates and low latency.
Yep, I did try some server side games in the past where even the graphics were server side. Generally speaking, it was fine for slow paced games but anything action oriented was basically unplayable. I feel like subjecting someone to that in VR ought to be a war crime or something. 😄
There are standalone sets coming out that won't have the cable issues, but they will ultimately be just for movies and cell phone quality games (Candy Crush VR?) since they are run on cell phone hardware.
