Am I the only one that is going to use a gamepad in vr more then touch?

Let me start of by saying that motion controllers are great and probably one of the best ways to experience VR as it is really immersive and mind blowing. BUT I really don't want to do that the whole time. Most of the time I want to be visually immersed but physically relaxed.

Someone wrote an interesting theory about how this depends on whether you see yourself as your body or just your mind/soul. In my case its definitely the mind. So it's just awesome to transfer your mind into the virtual world and control yourself like a superhero with some buttons and a stick.

I always thought that a lot of gamers would share this opinion but with the current Roomscale VR and touch hype it seems like people think motion controllers are necessary for a VR experience.

I also own a Vive for a long time now. I clearly see that in my free time I use VR about 80% seated and with a gamepad and 20% Roomscale VR.

Any other people that share this opinion? 😄

The idea is that with the available options there's a balance between your personal preferences, the games design and the fun/novelty factor.

There's no right or wrong in using either method of controlling games, just many situations among which a gamepad would be better than motion controllers, and vice versa, etc.

How do you play platformers with this setup. Little big planet, Chronos, Tekken.

I feel gamepads have their place, but perhaps its just the genres you like dont use them?

I am with you.. Over time, I have been loosing interest in touch controllers.
It is taking too long, and there is too much suspense.

If you hadn´t eaten any, why are you talking it then? Weird.

I love motion controls. most non cockpit games I would rather use motion controls

HOTAS for cockpit games, then almost exclusively mouse and gamepad (merc fang)/keyboard..

I got my first controller when I got the rift as it came with one, and lucky's tale needs it, but I'm fairly awful at using one..

I'll be getting touch though as I can see FPS combat working really well (hack and slash, magic and shooters) with it.
Though you are more than slightly incoherent, I agree with you Madam,

I enjoyed wii with gamepads (monster hunter tri, jap rpgs etc) , and currently enjoying vr with just gamepad (lucky's tale, E:D, Eve:Valk, Minecraft, Omega Agent etc).

Not everybody has the luxury of a big space. Restricting to just room scale gimmick is just going to alienate players with space constraint. It is extremely limiting to design only room scale vr games.

it really depends on the game. For me i will probably use wheel and hotas more than pad OR touch.
(driving and flight games are my meat and potatoes of VR gaming, the rest is just the gravy).

Looking forward to getting touch however, so long as the price is right,.
Fiat Coupe, gone. 350Z gone. Dirty nappies, no sleep & practical transport incoming. Thank goodness for VR 🙂

People that use game pads should be burned as a heretic. No if, not buts, it's wrong and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

(you can put me in the not going to use camp)

And this is a grade A example of why some people think PC gamers have a stick shoved royally up a certain orifice!.
Different strokes and all that!.

I wholeheartedly disagree. The gamepad is the devil for VR. All it does is making me feel sick most of the time.
I see use for it for titles like luckeys tale but other than that nope.
This doesn't mean that every game needs motion controllers though.
Some of the best VR experiences are racing sims and flight simulators. I don't need motion controlelrs for that. Wheels and Hotas are absolutely fabulous for VR.

First person games are where motion controllers shine though. Playing those with a gamepad is plain and simple: dreadful.
